dvd commentaries

So, I started up a new feature at sg1_solutions, which is recapping/reviewing the episode commentaries for the SG1 dvds. aizjanika and I used to do them back in the day for S8 on TWoP (and I may enlist her permission to snerch hers from the forum when I get to S8 ( Read more... )

I read, and I liked.

I think my favorite DVD commentary is PDL for "The First Ones," especially when he talks about how Chaka reacts to Daniel's behavior. (Chaka wasn't mad at Daniel for talking into his radio; he was angry because Daniel stood to his full height instead of staying in a position of crouched submission.)

Wor'd on Gary Jones. I love love love Walter, but can't you natter about your parking space some time when Daniel isn't dying onscreen!?

I know. I loved that one too. It gave me a lot more appreciation for that episode, because at first I was resentful of the "Enemy Mine" ripoff.

I appreciated the homage more after the commentary. And it's true Dion and Michael rocked together.

Martin Wood has wowed me with his commentary. I still have my DeLuise love, and adore his early commentaries, but the poo jokes and Gary Jones got a bit much later on. MW is teh awesome. :-D

Martin Wood was one of my favorite commenters, too, at first.

I swear, I'm thinking of getting SGA dvds just because he does a lot of the commentaries. I mean, I'm not that into the show beyond a casual viewer. LOL

I'm glad someone's doing this. I know there's lots of interesting tidbits in the commentaries, but it's often 1% interesting, 99% rambling about crap (sometimes literally).

Yeah, I won't be recapping the literal crap in detail (thank god).

Hey, when's the next breadbox coming? Are you hearing "Crystal Skull" calling you?

Turns out Fire and Water called to me a bit louder. I'm about halfway though that one.

I'm not fussy. Any of them is fine with me. Poor bar-b-que Daniel...except, not really. Just very very wet.

Aw thanks.

PdL loves talking with GJ. He's talks about it on a S7 or S8 dvd that oh, we've got to get you on the Atlantis dvds! I'm sure the guy is funny in the day to day humdrum workload, and he may be a great stand-up. But...AAAAAAAAAHHHHHH! There were so many complaints to the MGM site that they mentioned in one of the S9 ones it would be the last dvd commentary they were allowed to do together. (Sorry, Peter, I truly do love and respect your work, but I too was one of the ones who contacted the site. Those commentaries were *bad*).

You are aware they finally called the Season 7 Unas Episode "Enemy Mine", right? Hee. T'was about time they fully homaged it. ;-) At the time, I wasn't as appreciative of SG-1's tendancy to "homage" [read rip off] as I am now. Yeah, "Enemy Mine" was a cool movie concept.

Yes, you have my permission to use mine, if you think they'll be useful. Feel free to edit as necessary, as well. I wrote them geared towards talking with people on the forum, so I'm not sure how they'd read out of that context. *g*

I never did finish watching the season 8 episodes on DVD or listening to the season 8 commentaries.

Anyway, it sounds like a good idea and a fun feature.

I got the idea from the old Stargate Daniel Friendly website (that later became SciFi Gate). The site owner had either transcripts or summaries of some of the older episode commentaries on her site, and I enjoyed reading them even though I'd already listened to all the commentaries at that point. *g*

I really was going to ask you again when I got closer to if/when I could use them. I know we discussed it long ago. And I didn't want to start it without giving you due credit. But thanks! :-)

I just got the idea because I'm an anally retentive nutcase. LOL. And we talked about the dvds on TWoP all the time. I'd seen that site once or twice before it shut down...it's way too graphic heavy for me. I think someone mentioned it was back up again, at least for ep transcripts (heh, I'm a bit proprietary on my own transcripts now though, LOL).

I don't care about credit, except that you probably wouldn't want to take responsibility for the crap that I wrote. *g* You can use the info and completely rewrite it without credit (to me) if you want, or do it however you like--or just do those ones over in your own way.

I haven't gone to that site in ages--probably not long after I started going to TWOP. I used to like it because she had episode transcripts and because I knew her (she was one of my first SG-1 friends online), but then she had them all set so that you couldn't copy & paste, so I started going to Solutions instead for my transcript needs. *g* Also, she kept having trouble with the site--not her fault, but still, I got out of the habit of going there.

It's possible that I might be willing to take one for the team and do some Gary Jones commentary recaps. You know, if you feel the need for some snark and bitterness gentle ribbing.

OMG, I would love you...well more than I already love you, fellow Brain member. :-D

It's certainly not a solo endeavor. I just haven't met anyone else who's pathetic devoted enough to want to, after aizjanika ended up forsaking us for those brothers in an old car. You don't have to feel restricted to Gary either. I'm willing to share Martin. :-D

It's safe here in dvd commentary land too. Ah old episodes. TWoP and parts of lj are getting to be too much a minefield with the not totally spoilered "Unending" discussion that never...ends. Hmm--who knew the title would be so apt. LOL.

A possible angle regarding Gary has come to mind and I'm willing to give it a try to see if it works.

I'm a fellow Brain member. Of course I'm pathetic devoted enough to want to. :)
