Based off the YJ_anon_meme prompt:
"So, Robin is actually a girl, but dresses and acts like a boy because of what happens to little girls in Gotham. The team find out and have to deal with not only their betrayal, but having to completely change their expectations.
Bonus! The guys start getting protective, and Robin shows them that she doesn't need them to save her."
Warnings: mild swearing, mild violence, Roy’s pimp hand
A/N: Hey guys, I’m sorry this chapter took so long. First I was visiting my ailing grandmother in Houston, which was really stressful between spending hours in a hospital and simply just having to watch her get worse. Then she died and I had to help my dad and aunt make arrangements, Then when I finally came home I got laid off from my internship due to my boss being unable to afford keeping me, and now I’m taking 3 summer courses that are trying their damnedest to kick my ass while looking for a new job to pay for gas to continue going to class. It’s been an exciting (and not so much in the good way) month.
But now I am back!! And in the right headspace!! I’ve re-read this and re-wrote this until I think it finally worth the pixels it’s displayed on, so here you go! I hope you enjoy and remember to comment!!! It encourages me. :D
Part VIII
As soon as the words left her mouth, Robin knew they were the wrong ones. Wally’s narrowing eyes and Roy’s tightened grip only confirmed it.
“What do you mean, you can’t be Robin anymore?” Wally asked, looking a dangerous combination of worried and suspicious.
“You left before I could explain. Robin’s male. I’m not. Therefore I cannot be Robin.” She replied bluntly, deliberately reverting to simple bat-logic.
“Dude, unless you secretly got a sex-change -which even with you I seriously doubt- you were always female.” Wally replied, unimpressed.
“You act like we can’t keep a secret.” Roy accused, dangerously close to reverting back to angry-Roy.
“Three can keep a secret as long as two of them are dead.” Robin quoted recitatively.
“Fuck that!” Roy snarled, pushing her away. “Do you seriously believe we would intentionally put you in danger?”
“Not intentionally, no,” Robin snapped back, “but between Superboy and Megan not always getting a clue, Artemis lacking a background, Kid Mouth, and you losing your head whenever your-“
The slap was so unexpected she didn’t even think to move before it connected, the force throwing her to the ground but thankfully not breaking anything. Bringing her hand up to her cheek, she looked up at Roy disbelievingly. Roy had slapped her. Roy had slapped her. Roy had slapped her. Some part of her mind noted that now the boys were fighting amongst themselves and it was quickly escalating to physical but most of her was still in shock. Never, in all their fights, had Roy ever struck her with the intention to actually hurt. Robin closed her eyes and gathered herself. She didn’t want to move, she didn’t want to fight, she didn’t want to even see people right now but no matter how betrayed he felt, that was not okay. And she was not about to take it.
As quietly and efficiently as she had been taught, she entered the fray, her focus on Roy. Wally took himself out of the free-for-all shortly after she entered and eventually she got Roy pinned. She wasn’t heavy enough to hold him down herself so she had to resort to using his arm pinned behind his back as leverage, threatening to dislocate it if he tried to buck her off. She waited until his swearing tapered off before leaning down and hissing, “If you ever slap me like that again for anything less than insulting you mother I. Will. End. You.”
Sitting up, she settled herself more comfortably on his back before continuing, still in dangerous woman mode. “Now, if you’re done practicing your pimp-slap. Batman’s paranoid, even I’ll admit to that, but accidents do happen and Gotham has a disturbingly rampant sex slave trade. Those guys hate Batman and Robin and don’t respect women in the slightest. If they caught ever a shaky rumor I was a girl-” Robin shuddered, “I’ve rescued what was left of those girls enough to know I don’t was to be one of them.”
“Robin…” Wally began at the same time Roy declared, “There won’t be a rumor!”
“I don’t want to leave and I want to trust you,” Robin spoke over them, “but Batman’s not going to go with me on this. If …if it goes the way it’s meant to I’ll be patrolling again in a little over a year. At least this way you won’t think I’ve died…”
“What?”
Roy slipped her distracted grip and rolled them so she was the one pinned, stuck under his considerably larger body.
“Why the Hell would we think you were dead?” he demanded, close enough for her to note he hadn’t shaved this morning.
If she could, she would have face-palmed. Instead, she glared at him, which Roy seemed only too happy to return with equal zeal. There was no telling how long they would have remained locked in their glaring contest had a quietly angry bat-voice hadn’t requested to know what, exactly, was going on. Roy jumped off her like she was on fire and she almost smirked as they both quickly straightened to face her controlled but furious mentor. It would have been funnier if Bruce wasn’t equally pissed at her.

RECOGNIZED: GREEN ARROW 08
The minute Dinah and Ollie materialized in Mount Justice, they were surrounded by the better part of the Young Justice team, all of which were trying to tell what was probably the same story. A little overwhelmed, she may or may not have used a touch of the Canary cry in telling them all to hush and give themselves some form of order.
“But he’s going to kill Robin!” Superboy blurted out.
Dinah narrowed her eyes and looked to Kaldur. “Explain.”
“Robin will not actually die,” Kaldur quickly clarified, “however, there is a high likelihood Batman will make it look as though she did.”
Dinah shared a look with Oliver, not even sure where to start on that sentence.
“Why don’t you start from the beginning?”
Dinah could feel the onset of a migraine as she tried once again to get Artemis and Oliver to both calm down. The rest of Young Justice seemed to have passed the betrayal stage, but Artemis was disturbingly same-tempered as her mentor and now they were both feeding off each other.
“How dare he! That hypocritical, anal-retentive-!”
“-secretive, brooding-!”
“-antisocial, sneaky-!”
She turned her attention back to Megan, Kaldur, and Superboy who were all watching their teammate and her mentor with looks akin to fascination. “You’re absolutely sure about this?” she asked for what seemed like a millionth time. She just couldn’t believe Bruce hadn’t told them. She could have helped Richard -was that even her name?
“-a female protégé deserves equal status!”
“-your female protégé has equal status!”
“What purpose would it serve for us to lie about something like this?” Kaldur replied reasonably. “Robin is our friend. While we are upset we were not trusted with her secret, we do not blame her, nor do we wish to lose her.”
“-an B. Anthony’s noble sacrifice-!“
Dinah nodded, finding his maturity refreshing. “Is Robin responding to him-her comm?”
“-to do with voting rights?!”
“No. She ran away and left all her comms in her room.” Superboy answered, sounding upset.
“All of her comms?” she clarified; bewildered that Robin could possibly have left even one of her comms, never mind all of them.
Superboy looked to the side. “I was worried she’d contact Batman,” he muttered.
“Batman!! More like Fatcat Man!”
“-and Robin just went with it! I mean seriously-!”
Dinah sighed, but couldn’t really fault the boy’s logic. “Alright, well then I’ll try to get in contact with Batman then.” She put up a hand to stop the kid’s protests.
“-oppressive male chauvinistic agenda-!”
“I know you think Batman’s the bad guy here, but I was a Gotham girl too,” Dinah reasoned. “He has a point and this is something that needs to be discussed. What did you expect? We’d just abduct his s-daughter? It’s not like he’s some kind of deranged killer.”
“Batman’sgoingtokillRoy!!!WewerefightingandthenRoyandRobinreallygotintoitthenRobinpinnedRoythenRoyRobinandthenBatsshowedupandheslikesuperBat-scarynowandistotallyabouttoincinerateRoywithhisBat-glare.” Wally’s appearance was somewhat disorienting to everyone and, as soon as the gist of his words sunk in, Dinah thought Oliver’s face was going to achieve a whole new shade of purple. Thinking quickly, she was pretty sure she knew what had happened. Hopefully she was right.
“Bring Robin here.” she ordered, cutting off the other’s budding tirades and concerns.
Robin had been trying to figure out what, exactly, she could say to save Roy’s credit, citizenship, and possibly even his virility, when in a blur of “Hey,Batman!BlackCanarysaidtogetRobinsowe’llbeatMountJustice.Kay?Bye!”
she went from facing an angry Bat to zipping back to Mount Justice.
A/N: In closing, I’d like to explain that a lot of what I know of DCU comes from the comics and (when in doubt) Wikipedia. Oliver Queen here (seeing as he says like two sentences in the show) is based off of that. Also, Black Canary’s security code is something I invented but Ollie’s is not. They haven’t mentioned hers in the show yet so I had to get creative.
