This household swears by Claranet - in fact I've been with their antecedents since 1994 and have never had serious trouble. Their 'lite' hosting package is not expensive and their support is very good.

I have recently (last year) started using hostpapa.co.uk for a lot of my stuff, as well as a few sites that I setup for others, and am very happy with them indeed.

That said justhost do look good too.

I depends on the spec you need,

If it's just an html/css site you are after, it's hard to beat 123-reg.co.uk on price, and they are pretty reliable to.

That's £1.85 p.c.m + £5.95 bi-annually for the domain.

That's for a 100mb disc space, which to all intents and purposes is the same as unlimited, It be hard to imagine a static site that requires more without it being chock full of videos and sound.

If it's going to be based on a cms system, and requires php & mySQL, you really cannot beat rochen Still cheap and they offer brilliant service, I host all my best clients with them, and they effortlessly handle even the biggest of e-commerce sites, with visits in the 10,000 + per day.

The e-commerce will be linked off-site - firstly with a paypal button and later with a link to the distributor's site if I go down that route, depending on response.

It'll be a simple HTML site, of about 5 pages, with a few images, mostly text, and the only video content is linked to Youtube, where it's held. I couldn't see the point of streaming large amounts of video content when Youtube has it all set up already.

The only thing that would be nice is the ability to see visitor statistics - so I know what is effective marketing-wise. It's a blunt instrument, but it'll give me an idea about what marekting elements are most effective. If I destribute leaflets and get a big spike in visitors, then I know to do more leaflets!

Cool - I shall have to learn how to do that!

Mind you, one of the unexpected fringe benefits of this project is how much I've learned about completely random stuff. Some of it may even be useful!

To be honest, those prices look roughly the same as most others I've looked at in the past; in other words, not overly expensive and not so cheap as to be worrying.
