O Hanami!

May 05, 2009 09:10

I meant to write this on Sunday but didn't get around to it. We went for a walk in High Park and it was a perfect day to see the cherry blossoms - these are really old sakura trees that the Japanese gifted to the city after WWII (for not blowing them up, we say!). People were enjoying hanami - picnics under the cherry blossom trees - and I have to admit, it was a lot nicer than the hanami I've been to in Japan, where they spread bright blue tarps over the ground for people to sit on, there's no grass and it stinks of alcohol. It was much more pleasant here, with the sloping green lawns and geese and view of the pond...

And since I had the camera, on the way home of course I had to stop and get a pic of the lovely little magnolia that's down the street...

This is Adam and "The Talker", a cat that lives down the street and comes meowing up to us every time it sees us. (First time posting Adam photo - don't tell him! Though he's practically in disguise with the hat and sunnies and all.)

Then on Monday I got a care package from me mum, complete with new-old digital camera and Cadbury Crunchy bunny & chockie yay!! Which naturally I had to take a photo of, y'know, for posterity. And salivating...

Today is the first cooking class - we're making mulligatawny and choc-chip and oatmeal cookies - a strange combination I know but what the hell: it's YUMMY!! We still have to get the halal chicken and I have to look for spoons and extra bowls, but otherwise we're ready to go! The artmaking one is a bit more iffy for me, only because I'm nervous about sewing and I haven't started my trial soft toy yet because it's a bit daunting.
