I so want to share our day today because I think it provides a nice demonstration of the surprises San Francisco can bring. In the interest of brevity, I'm going to try out bulletpoints rather than a narrative. I doubt it'll help.

We woke up late today, without a single thing planned, decided to go out, and here's what we got:

-A mass of humanity. It's always a curious thing when the train on a late Saturday afternoon looks like 8:30, Monday morning. Hmm.
- A man urinating in broad daylight, on the street, completely unconcerned by the impropriety of it all. I know this isn't interesting, and that's why I bring it up. The fact that it's such an unremarkable act in this city still horrifies me.
- Make our way to Union Square, only to discover police barricades and people scrambling for curbside real estate.
- It's the Chinese New Year parade! Oh no. It's the Chinese New Year Parade. I really should pick up a local paper once in a while.
- The restaurant we planned to try out is mega-pricey. $80 for a casual lunch pricey. We decide to shift our culinary exploration across the street. Sears Fine Food - Home of the World Famous Little Pancakes! Sounds promising.
- Turns out we arrive just in time for dinner, and not the little pancakes. We are sad, but hungry. Bring on the dinner menu.
- I spend $22 for 4 small shrimp on a dainty bed of risotto.
- The humanity outside has accumulated beyond belief. However, in the half-hour it takes us to claw through 3 city blocks, we are treated to a good portion of the parade. The marching bands, the dancing dragons, the pre-schoolers dressed up like little piggies. Very lively. Very exciting. Very much want to cross the street. How can we get across the street???
- Brief shopping interlude. Boring, but successful. $174 worth of clothes for $68. Victory.
- Movie time. Steve acquiesces to my rom-com urge, and we get tickets for Music & Lyrics.
- Previews, previews, hey that new show "The Tudors" looks pretty good, previews, and then Dave Chappelle walks in the theater.
- He's wearing headphones and stands there for a few seconds scanning for a seat. I see him, recognize him, but my brain doesn't make any connection as to why I recognize him. Steve has to lean over and tell me, "Hey, that's..."
- A couple of minutes later, he books it out of there super fast.
- Movie was such fun. Truly enjoyable. It didn't make me role my eyes or cringe, and we walked out with all the songs in our heads. Recommended.
- We ride the train home with quite the festive crowd. Youngins blasting and rapping along with the Beastie Boys' "Intergalactic". It fit.
- We're now off to finally get some pancakes. 24 hour breakfast is but a 15 minute walk away!

Now, to close with an off-topic negative. I'm officially a disgruntled employee. But it's okay! I'm a disgruntled employee with hope and an exit strategy. That, and days like today, are what make it all alright.
