Christmas Eve

My favorite moment today: Sitting in the back of my truck with the hatch open, having lunch with Scott in the Publix parking lot. We had been making deliveries all morning, with a couple of side trips to Walgreens and the gun range where Scott was a member 15 years ago (to see if it still existed--so many new developments cropping up by Moss Park!). We split a cheese steak, salt & vinegar chips, butter toffee and a watered-down lemonade, and enjoyed the breeze on this sunny, mild day. It was nice to be outdoors, after a fashion, in no particular hurry, and in each other's company. It was very different from how we usually are together in a restaurant. I told him so.

Yesterday I spent horseback riding with Kat. It was our first time out together, her first as the "senior" experienced person on an outting with her horses, and my first up on Mystery (Kat's grey Arabian; she rode Dave's thoroughbred, Siena). After years of trail horses that either grazed the entire ride or tried to rub me off on the nearest tree, riding Mystery was like driving a Cadillac! I'd never helped load horses into a trailer before, so that was a new experience for me. It was another gorgeous day, and in Kat's excellent company, far from the shopping malls and traffic, time both slowed and passed too quickly!

We only just wrapped the last gift half an hour ago, and the house is a wreck, but that's one of the things I've decided to let go. I have got to get outdoors more often... :)

Merry Christmas!
