Pride & Prejudice

Some time past during the PBS series on the works of Jane Austen, I was seized with a sudden desire to, in addition to observing all of the scheduled broadcasts, peruse each of the novels in turn. In due course I flattered myself on having read all of the works authored by that great lady. Imagine my horror and embarassment to discover, upon carrying out my intention to re-read Pride & Prejudice, which I had hitherto considered by far my favorite of the lot, that I had in fact failed to read that arguably greatest of the works at all! I have these past few days been engaged in the most pleasurable endeavor of rectifying the oversight, which, owing to the many hours spent within its pages, must explain the peculiar language of my present communication.

I am ironically grateful to have somehow missed the study of this book which others more or less fortunate than I were required to complete in the course of their secondary education, for I rather believe that I did not then possess the literary maturity to enjoy it--let alone comprehend it--as thoroughly as I do to-day!
