"Sleep when the baby sleeps," everyone says. Blah, blah, blah. Most of the time I am pretty much passed out by the time baby goes to bed. But on rare ocassions like tonight, I have enough energy to take advantage of the only time of day when I don't have another human being (cute though he is!) attached to me. Then I get to sew.
Ironically, tonight's sewing project is for that very creature presently snuggled in bed next to his blissfully snoring daddy (if only I could sleep as peacefully as they!). It's my Easter gift, which I'm sure I've enjoyed creating more than he will enjoy wearing.

The pattern is a playsuit by
Oliver + S, in cotton fabrics I picked up at the Sewing Expo last month. Despite the fact that it took me three weeks to complete (working in 15-30 minute spurts several days apart), it was a fun and easy pattern. I'm planning to make it again for summer, in ocean-themed batiks. The hat is from a Simplicity pattern and reverses to the stripe fabric. To make it "grow" with the baby, I made it a size up and elasticized the back panel.
Oliver + S has a unique "
boutique sewer" program, which allows the sewer to purchase licenses to sell garments created from their patterns. I think I might enjoy this; I wonder what the market for fine hand-made children's clothing is like? If only I could complete a garment in less than three weeks!
