HAPPY BIRTHDAY AND I HOPE YOU LIKE IT!
The bright lights and loud noises startled him for a moment, but he was instantly pulled into the chaos without a moment’s hesitation from his lover. Jared dragged Chris along, stopping at every stand and vendor, pointing out anything he saw in his child-like excitement, and Chris just sighed and went along with it. The fair was in town and for once they were together while it was here and Jared was desperate to go.
Jared went straight for the candy, purchasing pink cotton candy and taking a large bite out of it before shoving it Chris’ face as an offering. Their hands still linked, Chris just shrugged and took a bite out of it himself, being rewarded by Jared’s bright smile and deep dimples. They met in the middle for a swift kiss, their lips tasting like candy, before Jared pulled Chris along to somewhere new once more.
They went into the fun house next, the ghost hunter actor joking that Chris would protect him from anything scary. Jared wrapped his arm over Chris’ shoulder and pulled the shorter man into him, Chris’ arm automatically winding its way around Jared’s lower back, his hand tucking neatly into Jared’s pocket, the two men’s steps falling into sync as they carried on through the fun house.
It was a cool night and there were people running everywhere, anyone could have recognised the pair, but right now neither man really cared. They were in their own world enjoying themselves and that was all that mattered. Jared took them over to another food vendor next, ordering himself a corndog and a hotdog for Chris, knowing exactly what the other man wanted. Chris smiled gratefully as he took the offered hotdog and took a large bite out of it, sauce running down the side of his mouth.
Chris went to wipe the stain off but Jared beat him to it, bending down and swiped at the sauce with the tip of his tongue, with his face still breaths away from Chris’ he licked his lips and shot the older man a wolfish smile; “delicious,” he murmured.
Chris stood stock still in shock, never having been one for PDAs. Recovering from his shock, Chris grabbed at Jared’s shirt collar and pulled the taller man down towards him, sealing their lips in a bruising kiss; “we will continue that later,” he replied, this time pulling Jared off to the next place.
They stopped in front of one of the games, Chris picking a shooting game first. He paid the man two dollars and took his bullets, aimed and knocked down each target, ignoring each time Jared flinched as the little duck went down. The man behind the counter looked mildly annoyed, the gun having obviously been tampered with to start with, and reluctantly told Chris to pick any of the large toys.
Chris searched through all the cheap toys, not liking the look of any of them, they were all cheaply made and horribly painted. His eyes wondered lower, to the smaller prizes and landed on a medium sized bear; “I’ll take that one,” he said indicating the teddy.
“Are you sure?” the man shrugged, pulling the creamy brown bear off the hook, it made no difference to the man what prize Chris chose, but it had shocked him that he didn’t go for the largest ones.
“I am,” Chris said accepting the prize, “here you go Jay,” Chris said immediately turning towards Jared and giving the younger man the soft bear.
“Really Chris?” Jared said, his smile huge.
“Yeah, I won my date a teddy bear and the fair, how more cliché did you want it?” Chris replied smiling as well.
“Thanks Chris!” he said, hugging the bear close to him before pulling Chris in towards his other side, “I’mma name him... Uhh... Ranger!” Jared said, giggling to himself.
“Ranger? Why?” Chris asked, curious but nervous of the answer.
“’Cause...” Jared shrugged, “just kinda reminds me of you...” he mumbled.
Chris laughed and simply pulled Jared closer and placing a wet kiss to Jared’s cheek. They continued on through the fair, looking around and simply enjoying each other’s company. Jared stopped at one of the ‘Strong Man’ games, paying the fee and picking up the mallet before striking the bell at the bottom, not surprised when the weight reached the top. The older guy manning the booth smiled and handed Jared a toy dog which he accepted before moving on.
“But Mommy! I wanted the puppy!” they heard a little girl cry.
“I’m sorry Elly, I tried but I didn’t win,” the obviously worn out mother replied, “We’ll try another game,” she suggested.
“But... But... Okay,” the little girl hiccupped.
Jared looked over at Chris momentarily before leaving him and walking up to the pair, he crouched down towards the little girl, shooting the mother a reassuring smile before saying; “Hey, I was wondering if you could do me a favour, see I have these two guys but I just don’t think I can carry both of them around anymore. Do you think you would be able to look after this pup for me?” he said in a low, soft voice.
“R-really? For how long mister?” she asked, not wanting to get her hopes up.
“Well, I think it would be unfair if he got use to you then I took him back, how about if you promise to look after him then you can keep him,” Jared smiled.
“Oh! I promise! I’ll look after him!” She answered immediately, her head nodding up and down so fast Jared was worried she’d hurt herself.
“Done,” he said handing her the toy dog, “This one here is called Ranger, but he doesn’t have a name yet, I think you can name him right?” Jared said.
“I... I think I’ll call him Smiley,” she answered after a moment’s thought.
“Oh yeah? And why’s that?” Jared asked.
“Cause you smile a lot,” she replied innocently, looking back at her mother for confirmation.
“I think that’s a lovely name sweetie, now what do you say to the nice man?” the mother said.
“Thank you Sir! I promise to look after him!”
“No problem, Elly, you have a good night!” Jared replied, standing up and looking at the mother, “I hope that was okay, I overheard her asking for it, and I really don’t need the toy,” Jared said, nervous about his actions for the first time since approaching the little girl.
“No, thank you so much, I’m horrible at these games, I think you just saved me a lot of money...”
“No problem, it was my pleasure,” Jared smiled. “Goodbye Elly!” he waved.
Elly gripped the toy dog tightly under one arm and ran up to Jared, hugging him around the knees fiercely before running back to her mother’s side. “Thank you!” she said before the mother and daughter walked off.
“Well that was really nice of you,” Chris said, having watched the entire scene.
“I only really need this little guy here,” Jared said, shrugging off the good deed as if it was nothing.
“You’re amazing Jay,” Chris smiled, pulling Jared towards him before the two men walked off in the other direction. “Do you want to do one more thing before we go?” Chris asked, looking at the time.
“Yeah, I have an idea,” Jared said, once again pulling Chris along with him.
They stopped a few moments later, Chris looking up at the giant Ferris wheel. It wasn’t the biggest they had ever seen, but from where it was positioned it would definitely give a good view of not only the whole park but also some of the nearby water. There was a small line in front of them, watching the other’s take their turn and waiting, so Jared and Chris joined on at the end, hand in hand and waited. They spoke quietly to one another, planning their day tomorrow when finally someone coughed to get their attention.
Chris looked behind him and noticed a younger guy standing there with a bunch of his friends and some girls, he rolled his eyes and turned to face the guys, ready to deal with the bigots. “You got a problem with us?” he asked, standing in front of Jared slightly.
“No, but the line’s moving and you’re up,” the guy smiled.
Chris heard Jared bellow out a laugh behind him, immediately realising his mistake; “uhh, sorry?” Chris tried.
“No worries,” the other said good naturedly.
“My hero, my knight in shining armour, come on, it’s our turn,” Jared said, still laughing, as he pulled Chris up onto the platform to get into their carriage.
They sat down, side by side, Jared once again placing his arm over Chris’ shoulders as the shorter man resigned himself to the fact that he was always going to be the one that had to curl into Jared. Chris cupped the side of Jared’s face and turned his face, he sat up slightly and pressed a firm kiss to Jared’s lips, Jared’s hand coming up to cradle the back of his head, massaging his scalp as they kissed.
“I love you,” Chris whispered, as if someone could hear them alone on the Ferris wheel.
“I love you too,” Jared replied, continuing the kiss.
Eventually another cough broke them apart, this time it was the operator letting them know their turn was up. Jared and Chris had missed stopping up the top, too involved in one another to realise that they had gone around twice already. They blushed as they got off, walking away immediately as not to bump into the other guys from before. All in all, it was definitely a good night.
Later that night, Jared and Chris tumbled into bed together, their clothes left in a trail from the front door. Jared was kissing at Chris’ neck, making his way down to one of his nipples when he stopped all of a sudden, sitting up and looking around the room.
“Don’t stop baby!” Chris moaned.
“One sec!” Jared said. He stood from the bed and walked over to the computer desk, “Ranger is too young to be watching this,” Jared said in all seriousness, turning the bear around in its spot before returning to Chris.
“Come here you!” Chris laughed, dragging the younger man down towards him, picking up where they left off.
Definitely a good night.
