Dot ask me how I woke up with that 7am alarm, but I did. Don't ask me how I got myself and my stuff in the car by 7:30, but I did. Don't ask me how I wasn't hungover out of my skull - actually do. That was an interesting combo of over eating, boot and rally, and drinking huge amounts of water.
Either way, by 8am I was out of sweet old Indy, and on my way to my birthday gift to myself - the Minneapolis fringe.
There was so much angst as I passed thru Chicago, knowing I was so close to Jenjen and matty, Thomas, and Emily, but Jenjen and I had agreed to meet in Naples, fl, and everyone else could...well...wait?
Anyway, there was a brief moment of heartache as I passed cave of the mound outside ann arbor - I am fairly sure the cave in cavers was based off that cave. But the fringe was calling! I made it to minne just before 5. Could have made the first show that day. But the schedule was too tight, so instead ben (of the cap fringe award winning show do not kill me killer robots fame) and I made plans for the next 7 shows. We started with #ringtone, which seemed like such an interesting conceit, but proved less than excellent. Mostly it felt scattered and recycled. But, it was in no way the worst thing I've seen. We hopped to a nearby venue for our next shows, but mine was sold out, and his started 1min before we arrived (after we ran 4 blocks, too!)
I genuinely adore ben. He's just fun to hang with. We made our way thru convos and drinks while we waited for the 10 o'clock shows to start. I saw the 1 storytelling show Entwined, which was just adorable, and spoke much more too me than I thought it. Really reaffirmed my desire to create a one woman show, and to take storytelling classes.
Then it was off to bedlam, the mnfringe headquarters. What a wonderful, beautiful space, with such an amazing ethos. It's just disgraceful they are being pushed out by the owners and developers. Ben introduced me to just about everyone, but all I remember is the house Techy, Ian kanodle. Mmm. The invite was given to crash at his place, but I took the good girl route and stayed at the same place as bens friend Rebecca. A choice I may still be kicking myself in the butt for many months from now.
But, Libido aside, we all had great night, and didn't drag our sleepy butts home till 3am when they kicked us out.
