not bad for 48 hours of travel, eh?
i am in hongkong now. i had two transfers on my way here, and i am trying to convince myself i can consider my 2 hour layovers in tokyo and taipei as haivng at least "visited" the countries. yes? yes?
no.
anyway, i got to hongkong late, and it took me awhile to figure out what route i wanted to take to get to the city (wound up $100hk airport train to hongkong, then $5hk to fortress hill). i woulnd up arriving at 11:30pm, and the hostel i had been told would be open was instead booked. luckily the girl working there was SUPER nice, and said i could stay on their lobby couch for the night. turned out it would get better than that. one of the guests who was supposed to come didn't show, and that bed turned out to be in the room of the new friend i'd made. you see, as i was standing there, trying to figure out what to do, a darling melbourne fellow struck up a convo with me. he offered me a heineken, and we exchanged travel stories. he said "even if this chap shows, we'll find you some room on the floor in our room". but i got top bunk instead. there were two other guys there, one a chinese national, and one a hongkonger, sort of. we stayed up talking weird things, like the american psyche, and homosexuality in travel.
good times :)
so now i'm looking up flights to kunming. i think i'll just go to the airport in shenzhen first, and try my luck there, and if i have to, i'll spend a night in shenzhen. i was supposed to be meeting up with chantal, but we wound up having wildly different travel plans, so instead i'm gonna go solo. i'm a bit sad i'll be by myself on my birthday, but that's why we have international aubri day. even if the 8th sucks, one day this month will be awesome, and that will be the day i celebrate.
i hope to go to lijiang and chengdu after kunming, and i'm already regrettin packing as much as i did. less than usual, but still too much!
anyway, off to grab some breakfast noodles, and make my way to the mainland.
and the yes inn (183 kings rd., 11/F) is the best best hostel. they're super nice, it's super clean, super convenient, and they saved my ass when i was out of luck. only $190hk for the night remind me to give them a positive net rating.
in final news. i'm a schmoop. i miss my boy :-/
