oh, the week is over. gone too fast. too fast.
I didn't do anything interesting thursday. I actually fell asleep after that post. Schmitty got home around 1:30, and we fell right asleep. i dragged him out of bed at 730 because friday was my last day and I wanted to enjoy it. so we called his surfer cab driver contact, and we met at the dukes beach on waikiki. it was 50, which was a bit more than we needed to pay for a lesson, but it was private for just us two, and as long as we wanted. we met around 9:30, and he gave us a quick how to on land, but really all the action was in the water. its no surprise I didn't get up my first try, considering I could hardly balance on my belly on the board. Schmitty also didn't get up his first try so it was Ok. then, on my second try I got up AND surfed for a really good distance, a feat not to be repeated for the next hour and a half. Schmitty did great, like a pro. within an house was catching every wave and taking them really close to the beach. I was having a lot of foot placement issues, and often the nose of the board would dip and I would just hydroplane to my doom. the last half hour I actually started catching some surf, and I was the only one btwn Schmitty and me to catch a wave by themselves (our instructor, chris, was pushing our boards for speed when the waves came). so I think we are tied for various skill levels at the end of the day ;)
we hung out with chris, chatting politics and family and the laid back lifestyle. he's a chill dude, with three kids, all of the surfers and one a competitive motocross jr rider. cool.
we made our way thru waikiki in search of the famed puka dog after that. they actually make veggie puka dogs, but we only had enough cash on hand for one, so I got some maui chips instead (they Are tasty chips.)
then we wandered back to our hotel, and took the afternoon slow. when Schmitty got back from the wedding thursday, he had to have me open the door for him, because I had the key card. when I did he was standing there with three white roses, a piece of wedding cake, a party favor and a pilfered wax paper sun umbrella for me. in otherwords, brilliantly sweet and thoughtful and romantic.
so, friday, when we got back to the room, I used one of the roses to scatter petals on the bed (because im a dork) and we just lay around talking, snuggling and in general enjoying each other (trying to keep the cloud of the impending month apart out of our minds)
around 4 I wanted to see kailua beach, so I rushed us out of the room, and over to a moped shop. Schmitty was going to rent a motorcycle, but it was cheaper to just rent two mopeds. I would have like to have been closer during the ride, but as is, it was pretty fun. the views were amazing. just the island oahu is so climate diverse. we passed diamond head crater, huanauma bay, and a billion other gorgeous beaches. Schmitty took me to the hotel the wedding had been at, because there were dolphins and sea turtles there, and I hadn't seen any yet. I giggled like a little girl for an hour after that. so fantastic.
then we watched the sn set over dramatic mountain cliffs, and spend through the center of the island to get to the first friday art celebration. it was pretty neat, so really cool art. we went to mini garden for some "good" chinese food, but it was really just more americanized cantonese. meh.
we zipped over to drop the mopeds off, and Schmitty watched me fervently pack everything up. so sad!
it was hard getting to sleep, knowing it'd be awhile before id see him again. I just wanted to stay awake and feel his warmth, and make the evening last. also, he really overworked his lower back surfing, so walking, eating and sleeping were all difficult for him that evening. poor boy.
before I knew it, it was 6am, and I was getting ready to leave. he went with me to the bus stop, and waited for my bus with me. after I got on, we had to wait at a red light, so he stood outside on the sidewalk doing silly dances to make me laugh and not get all sad and schmoopy about leaving.
yeah. I have big love for him.
we all know this week was going to be important, and it went better than even I had imagined it would. one of the best weeks ever, definitely.
now my flight is delayed, which is irksome, all I wanna do is get on the plane and get some sleep and get excited for the month in frntof me. and it looks like that's happening now! see you in china!
