slightly better
november has just been a bad month for aubri. are novembers always bad? i'm trying to remember last november and i can't. i should go back in lj and look.
friday night dom and i went to lush and watched josh and his 'band' play. actually it was big tall blonde mike on bass, and little owen on drums. without any rehearsal time previous to the show. it was interesting. then rich sang a bit and then it was 2 and dom and i were driving each other nuts (not in a bad way, of course) so it was time to go home. the 'highlight' of the evening was the drunk american boy named dan who sat down next to me. he went to u of r so we reminiced over upstate, but in his fantastically drunken state he managed to first try to slide his fingers across my neck and shoulders, and when this little intrusion was gently rebuffed be proceeded to revert to frat boy tactics of tapping my beer and giving me a wet willy.

not the first impression i would have liked, and it left me calling him the drunk douche boy.
saturday after harry i went down to sanlitun and met up with dom for dinner. huge amounts of food were ordered, small amounts were consumed, and the extras were given to a beggar lady. we felt good about that. then about 2 hours was spent wandering the hutongs of sanlitun north, finished off with a drink at nanjie. i actually got him talking! worthwhile friendships, here i come.
to give you guys at home a better idea, he reminds me a Whole lot of schmitty in alot of his actions, and especially the way he talks (or doesn't talk, rather). so, i've got a little bit of an idea of how to interact with him, and more importantly, how to get to the meat of the subject. i genuinely feel with a guy like him if you're having a superficial friendship you might as well just not bother, so it's nice to know it's equalizing a bit.
i was gonna stay out saturday, but come midnight time when it was up to me to either head home or stay out and make new friends i discovered i wasn't much in the mood for making new friends. i'm not one for sitting in a bar alone, or in a bar with friends who are actively trying to get laid (but not with me). i had no interest in watching everyone around me get drunk and hit on, so instead i just went home.
sunday i worked. julia was pretty good, and that class went nicely. ann and james cancelled again. i think i will drop ann. i am giving james one more chance, but after that he's gone too. instead i met up with jeeyoung in sanlitun. right as i got off work i got a message from inga saying that she and bili and sooin and some other kids had gone to schillers (a german rest./bar) and i should come join them. well, i'd been planning on going to the gym and doing my homework, but i also hadn't been spending much time with my renda friends, so i decided to join them. took a bus to the right place, but after that i didn't know where to go. i ask a kindly chinese person who points me two blocks south. he was wrong. walk back to the bus stop, ask anothe person, who also says south. yah, no. asl another person who gives me great details about going north east, so i follow them. finally find a spot inga recognizes, turns out i was supposed to be going northwest. walk the 5 blocks back west, look for the bar, can't find it. walk past it 3 times before calling inga and asking where it was.
in the end, i was 3 blocks from where i'd started, and could have walked there in 15 minutes, but instead took 45 because chinese people simply can't tell you when they don't know where you should go. grrrr!
anywho, to make things MUCH better, schillers has a buy one get one free special on long island ice teas. BIG ones. we're talking pints (well, maybe half pints, but still, HUGE). and inga gave me her free one. and i only had one glass....refilled over and over and over from other people's glasses ;)
so, this debauchery started at 8. by 10:30 inga and i were ready to go home. drunk off our keisters. oye vey! i don't know how i went from planning to be healthy and studious to drunk at 10:30 on a sunday, but it happened and it was fun and i am glad i went.
plus, it helped me to get to sleep earlier back home. i watched hitchhikers guide to the galaxy, and was asleep by 1-ish. not bad! maybe i should drink more often?
i woke up in time for class today. yay me. i am having troubles with my online banking. boo bank.
we'll see how the rest goes.
