On the 5th Philippine Toy Convention

While downloading a song, let me write something about what happened at 5th Philippine Toy Convention held at the Megatrade Hall of SM Megamall.

My sister and I arrived there at around 2:30 pm and we could already see so many people waiting in line to buy the tickets and so many people just loitering around the area as well. My sister asked me to but the tickets while she walks around looking at the cosplayers. Wow, my sweat was really dripping while waiting in line since it was so hot due to the number of people who wanted to attend the said con. Thankfully, after a few minutes we were able to get inside. The place was so packed that people are literally brushing against each other. We did not remain long in one booth since my sister and I are really not interested with toys. We just spent enough time to see what they are selling and then we move on. While my sister was browsing in an anime dvd booth, I went outside to meet serena16 who cannot go inside since it seems that the organizers decided to stop selling tickets due to the place being full. I went back inside after meeting her and decided to stay near the stage area to wait for the cosplay competition. I was really eager to see this one so I was a bit dissappointed when the hosts announced that it would start at 6 pm. It was just 4:30 pm at that time so we decided to go around the area again and eat. We came back and look for a nice place to view the stage area.

Before the cosplay competition began, there were a few bands who performed first. The band whose name is Late Isabelle sang 4 songs which sounded good enough and they even sang a rock version of My Favorite Things which was originally by Julie Andrews (from the Sound of Music). I liked it since it sounds really cool...and then the next band started to set-up their equipments. They call themselves the Hubris band and though the vocalists looks cute, his voice doesn't sound any good. My sister kept complaining that his voice was ugly and their songs are ugly as well. I was really surprised that she could stand the long wait since I know her to be impatient. At last after that performance, the cosplay has started. Unfortunately, my view is blocked by the people in front of me who are way much higher than I am. What pissed my sister and I was this guy who is really tall but decided to stay in front. I bet he still could have seen the event even by staying at the back but he decided to block everyone's view with his impressive height. Anyway, I made my move and was able to get a good position which enabled me to see the center of the stage.

Here is my rundown of the participants at the cosplay: there were a lot who still decided to cosplay a character from Naruto. They were always popular during anime conventions but I am getting tired of seeing it. There was some good ones and there was also lot of bad ones. There are participants who did not even exert enough effort. Their clothes looks like the ones you can see in everyday life. The ones that impressed me the most were those who cosplayed as Gundams and as Dracula. I did not bring a camera so I cannot show how good these people are. There were also kids who decided to join and people are saying "kawaii" to them since they really look cute in their costumes. Guys are always rowdy when they see a cute cosplayer or when they see someone wearing a skimpy outfit. There was this girl who looks really, really cute who cosplayed as a guy character but I cannot remember her name or the character she portrayed. There were some yaoi moments as well as yuri which should not have been allowed since there were children at the venue. I mean it is ok to use such to elicit a reaction from the crowd but do so with the right audience. All in all, there were a total of 170 participants at the cosplay competition which lasted for two hours. After that show, at least half or 3/4 of the people left. We decided to go home as well and not wait for the winner.
