The Wheel of Time turns and Ages come and go, leaving memories that become legend...

...Robert Jordan is dead.

For those of you who don't know who he was, Jordan wrote the Wheel of Time fantasy series.  This is one of my all-time favourite series of all time; the characters were incredibly well drawn, the world he created was rich and detailed and real, and the plot was convoluted and complex without being either repetitive or ( Read more... )

so. much. rage.

i've heard from so many of my highschool friends who were reading the series back then -- it's almost been a reunion!

Yeah, its a good series, but he could have cut out some major plot lines and still had a really good (but shorter) series of books.... I'm like you, though, there are several books where absolutely nothing happened .... sigh! I guess we'll never know!

Apparently he *did* finish dictating his notes to his wife and assistant -- and of course, he's had the last scene written since he started the fourth book -- so we will get some version of an ending, at least.

i *really* want to know what happens with Mat.

I understand exactly how you feel on all accounts. I even decided to wait until the last book was published, then reread the entire series from the beginning in one fell swoop. He must have known that his time was near, because I've heard that he basically dictated everything that he had planned for the last book to his wife and assistant, just in case. No, it won't be quite the same, but at least it'll be from him.

He did know -- he died of something lengthy and terminal. Actually, a couple of his fans donated bone marrow to the Mayo clinic for him.

I'd heard about his illness, I just didn't realize it was that serious. :(

NO!

I read those a long time ago and then stopped at book five or something because it hadn't been finished and why does this sort of thing happen aren't fantasy authors supposed to be immortal?!

All good authors should be immortal. *sniff, sniff*.

Argh, NO!

(and I'm totally with you about being upset over the writer dying before the series completing)

I just hope he has a nice time in the heaven all brilliant writers go after they die. A writer with his breadth of imagination and of his calibre is truly rare these days, and I actually feel rather sad about this, nevermind the unfinished last book.

Jordan was part of a rare breed. George RR Martin is the only one currently writing who comes anywhere near to approaching his depth of field.

I'm so distraught, dammit!
