For what it's worth, here is my story on how I quit smoking. I quit cold turkey, about five or six times actually, before it held. I knew I wanted to quit, so what I needed to do to succeed, personally, was keep myself out of the situations I used to smoke it.
First, if I didn't buy smokes, I'd have to bum...and that got old quickly. Second, I needed other distractions to keep me from just getting up and going downstairs to smoke. I began to do some writing on my breaks. Pretty soon, the otherhabits began to kick in and, before I knew it, weeks and then months had passed. Now, it's been over three years. Oh, there are days where sometimes the urge to ask for a cigarette is almost overwhelming. When that urge hits, I usually grab a bag of sunflower seeds (salted, in the shell) and just start chewing. After a while, I have other things I need to do and the urge passes.
Quitting an addiciton isn't easy. Quitting a habit isn't easy. However, if it is something we really want to do, we find ways to do it successfully.
Consider holding a rock in your hand. The rock represents your desire to quit smoking. If you drop the rock and take a smoke, it isn't the end of the world. Just pick the rock back up and hold tight. Remember that...just pick it back up and hold tight. It isn't a contest to see how many days you can go without. It is way of thinking...a way of being.
For me, I'm too ornery and stubborn to let the habit beat me. I just refused to let it...once upon a time, it got the best of me....but three years later, I spit in its face.
As for everything else that's going on with you, sounds like you got it pretty well under control, as I knew you would. It's okay to rant, as long as get it out of your system and move forward, which you have obviously done. Respect the monolith, but never forget that the only power it has over you is the power you give it. You can come out from behind its shadow any time you want.
As I've said before, I'm proud to call you brother, Mike. You're a good man.
It's 7 days since I had to start over. this so far is a miracle to me. If I do it again I quit again. That's all. I do not want to do eiter, so I will try to stay away from them for the time being.
