The sudden rough-and-tumble greeting caught Ben by surprise and he twisted, craning his head back to pin a face to the jostling. That it was Alex, all bright eyes and broad grin, that he found staring back should have been his first guess. They seemed to be orbiting a lot of the same space these days and theirs had been a bond quick to forge, tempered by mutual losses and a private need for fraternity that was mirrored in one another.

An answering grin leapt onto the boy's face and he pushed to stand, bracing himself on Alex's shoulder when he somehow managed to slip a bit on the bone-dry grass.

"Alex, hi!" Ben hoped he sounded a lot less eager than he felt. It was hard not to make a complete fool of himself when he so admired the older boy. He felt ridiculously fortunate to have somehow managed to wedge himself a spot in Havok's attention, in spite of his propensity for awkward interaction, and though he didn't have any actual brothers of his own he was discovering that the surrogate experience was pretty much the most fantastic thing ever.

"Boy, m'I glad that you're here," Ben gave him a once over and his expression grew impossibly brighter. "And not swimming! Alright!"

The boy lifted a hand for a high-five in the name of solidarity.
