I can't believe it's Sunday night! This weekend has just whizzed past, and it's effectively been a 3 day one as I was off work on Friday as the end of my week's holiday. But it's been a very productive one. The novel experience of a clean house galvanised me into dealing with a number of chores that have been hanging around for ages, including loads of handwashing, 3 sorts of recycling, starting to sort out my craft room, getting some pictures framed, buying some new houseplants and sorting out my Vietnamese photos. Go me! And I managed to fit in a couple of particularly English weekend pursuits, namely:
* A visit to the West Square Garden Party.
West Square is a wonderful community square about 30 minutes' walk from my house, and the garden party is an annual event that has all the best characteristics of a village fete. This year was no exception - the whole place was decorated with bunting, there was a lovely cake stall, a clown pottering around entertaining the children, home-made marmalade and a jazz band. One of my friends was running the "Guess the weight of the cake" stall :) I spent an exceedingly lovely couple of hours taking all this in, sat under a mulberry tree drinking beer with another friend. Just what the doctor ordered for a Saturday afternoon.
* A visit to
the Chelsea Physic Garden with The Boy, his sister and some other friends. What a fantastic place! I can't believe that I've lived in London all this time and have never been there before. It's still a working research garden and just has the most wonderful collection of extraordinary plants. And it has a set of beds laid out to illustrate Linnaeus's taxonomic system, a medical garden and all kinds of other geeky things. I really, really loved it - in fact I think I might even join as a member. I could spend hours and hours in there with my camera, and if the weather is nice it seems like a perfect place to camp out next weekend and read A Certain Book.
Anyway, I should probably go to bed soon as I have to go to work tomorrow (boo!). Hope y'all are having lovely Sundays.
