Last night's concert

Last night's Prom was utterly, utterly wonderful.

The programme was (according to the BBC's website) "a sequence of polychoral motets and canzonas, concertato psalm settings and canticles, and virtuoso solo motets composed for the Basilica of St Mark's, 1570-1670". OK. If you ask me, the programme was a collection of some of the most heavenly and transporting music I have heard for a long while, sung by a virtuoso choir who know all about tuning and pythagorean fifths, and accompanied by His Majesty's Sagbutts & Cornetts which has to be in the running for the title of Most Romantic Name For A Musical Ensemble Ever. I just loved it. And one of the best bits was that because they were trying to recreate the way the music would have been heard in the cathedral they moved the parts of the ensemble around between each piece, using a number of small stages on the arena floor as well as the main stage itself so once again I was in the thick of it.

Off to listen to it all over again on the Radio 3 website. Have good days, y'all.
