It's the 7th of July. One year ago today 52 people were killed and hundreds injured in terrorist attacks here in London as 4 bombs went off around our transport system. Since then the police have thwarted another three attacks that they are prepared to tell us about and also an attempt to infiltrate MI6. And yet, for the most part, we remain unafraid and resist those who would pursue their cause with violence by simply carrying on as normal.
Some days I love this city.
Yesterday was another one of those days, because the concert that I took part in was a real example of how people from different faiths and none can live alongside each other peacably and learn from each other. It was an event called "Faithsounds", in memory of a Jewish girl who was killed in the bombings. It was held in the South London Liberal Synagogue and consisted of us singing the Chichester Psalms, a choir from one of the pentacostal churches in Brixton singing full on gospel, including a gospel version of the Kaddish and a group playing Jewish music from Iraq and India. And we finished with a reading from the Koran by a local imam. It was a really moving, worshipful experience. Plus I learnt to ululate which I'm sure will come in handy in later life :)
*hugs* to you all, my dear friends.
