So, I'm two days into my mini Easter break and I'm having a fairly relaxing time thus far, which I think is exactly what I need just now.
Yesterday I did a lot of chores that have been on my list for a while, including registering the cats at the vets and buying a litter scoop. I also bought 2 new mice that I thought were a bit lame but the cats *love* them, I think because they have little rattly balls inside. Shows you what I know about the choices of cats :) My friend Maxine came over for dinner in the evening and we spent hours on the sofa gossiping, which was lovely.
Today I girded my loins and went to Oxford Street to buy new jeans. What is it about jeans? Their sizing seems to have been invented by martians, or certainly some creature with only the loosest grasp of human anatomy. I eventually solved the problem by taking about 15 pairs into the changing room at the Gap and emerging triumphant after about 45 minutes of wiggling and inspecting of my rear view, but what I don't understand is how it is possible for me to fit perfectly into pairs of jeans veering between a UK size 12 (US 8 I think) and a UK size 16 (US 12) MADE BY THE SAME COMPANY?!? No - I just don't get it.
After that I spent the afternoon in the Albert Hall hearing the Royal Choral Society sing Messiah. Maxine is a member of the RCS which is how I found out about it, and I'm so glad I went because it was wonderful - the perfect way to mark Good Friday. The tenor soloist in particular was excellent, although he did rather look like a bullfrog. The choir was also very good, although I would have liked a little more phrasing in places and the basses were a tiny bit unpredictable. But overall 3 hours of music went by in a flash and it was lovely to actually listen to the work in its entirety rather than perform it.
In cat news we have progressed to having the cage open most of the time now and they hop in and out at will. They are also getting much happier about me walking around while they're out and about and they will both come up and sniff my fingers while they are free range now, which is great. I'm going to try hand feeding in the open tomorrow and lots and lots of stroking and see how we go. The demise of the cage comes ever closer. Last I saw of them Thursday was on top of it chewing one of its catches so I think she'll be glad to see the back of it :)
