well hello lj; it's been a while!
one of the best things about last.fm (if you don't use it you're simply foolish) is all the free free music available. yeah all right there's a lot of free music out there in teh internets, but last.fm is at least legal and pays artists. plus the fun thing is happening upon random new and good music and then getting it all for free!
linky:
V/A: WHERE ARE YOU EUROPE?: industrial, neofolk, martial, dark ambient and noise. really good compilation.
V/A: SEE YOU IN SANITARIUM: industrial, dark ambient and noise, with some random trip-hop-ish stuff. a certain amount of crap on this one though. (depends if you like puerile noise or not)
most of the bands on those two comps have lots of free tracks available. a new favourite is
TECHNOLOGY OF SILENCE who have a couple of full albums for the taking; they make some kind of droney dark ambient soundscapes with nice trip-hoppy beats and industrial scrapings.
another act on these free comps with free d/ls are
I.V. LAB; they don't have full albums but the sample tracks are great; sort of abstract/ambient electro industrial.
speaking of abstract, i also had
Älymystö recommended to me by last.fm's computer brain. it's power electronics but slower and somehow softer.
