HP7.2

Saw it yesterday. :D In lovely traditional 2D, no less, which is way harder to find these days, ugh.

Loved it. Very satisfying. Though it feels like an era is over. ;-;

Unlike the previous movies, it didn't feel rushed (in fact, because the film expanded some scenes, and cut out some small subplots entirely, it was paced quite differently from the book). It was also way more action-y than 7.1, which kind of dragged on a bit (too much camping). The CG has very much improved since the days of the HP1 troll, and everything just looked really good.

I am a baby and will generally cry at anything in films, but this film had some scenes that were GUARANTEED to make me sniffle, and I knew I would:

Snape's death and flashback. WAAAGHHH. I mean, he's still such a massive jerk, but the death was so awful and the flashback moved me much more than the book one. Maybe because Alan Rickman sells it so well (aside from the creepy CG where they were apparently trying to make him look 21) and because the style of the flashback was so impressionist and leaned more on emotion than "this is what happened, etc., and this". Also, the way his death scene went down with Harry and the bits in the memory where he's sobbing over Lily with the baby in the background, it's like the movie was trying to have us believe he was Harry's real dad. Even if that's clearly not the case, SO MANY PARENTAL MOMENTS LOST. D:

RESURRECTION STONE SCENE. ;____; Poor brave Harry. It is not a coincidence that this was my favourite scene and also the only one with *GARY OLDMAN* in it. Also, am I the only person who finds it a bit weird that this was in the trailer? It's a huge spoiler! Or were they trying to bank on selling *GARY OLDMAN* to the potential audience, even though he appears for like 2 minutes?

Things I also highly enjoyed:

SUPERSTAR NEVILLE. The camera loved him. He was so badass. So satisfying when he chops up Nagini.

Seamus finally intentionally blowing something up.

SUPERSTAR MACGONAGALL. SHE IS THE MOST AMAZING OLD LADY EVER. ♥♥♥ DDDDD:

Helena Bonham Carter as Hermione as Bellatrix. Hahaha, HBC is very entertaining.

Neville/Luna. Awww, I like this idea a lot better than the randos the book characters ended up with.

The film showing a scene where Ron imitates Parseltongue. Thank you for wrapping up that bizarre loose end! Although, if he learned it from Harry talking in his sleep, it could've meant anything...?

Helm's Dee-- I mean, the siege of Hogwarts.

I liked the way the film showed Voldemort mentally cracking up with each Horcrux destroyed. I mean, it's not book canon, but it inherently makes sense, and it's a better way of showing what a Horcrux is instead of tons of exposition.

♥ Ralph Twisleton Fiennes. What a huge ham.

The Malfoy family escaping like Zoidberg before the final battle, lololol. And poor Lucius looked way rough. Always knew Narcissa carried the balls in that family.

The gross Voldemort fetus-baby from the dream King's Cross sequence. That was pretty well done.

Ciaran Hinds as Aberforth. YESSS. Although he was so unrecognisable underneath all that old man makeup. When he came to the rescue during the siege with the huge monster Patronus, it was almost as much of a crowning moment of awesome as Gandalf showing up at Helm's Deep. HAIL CAESAR! ♥

I liked that Dumbledore's moral ambiguity was addressed without having to delve too much into the history of it. You can just tell by how he was engineering Harry's death that he was forced into a morally shadowy role.

Surprisingly, the 19 Years Later looked pretty okay. They didn't really seem to have done much to the kid actors, but that's better than going overboard. Albus Severus was super cute. D:

And just to reiterate: *GARY OLDMAN*.

Things that were slightly weird:

Still can't stand Narcissa's hair, wtf.

Remus' ghost mentions his son to Harry in the Resurrection Stone scene, but was the film audience up to that point even remotely aware that Tonks had been pregnant? That was like, the only mention of Teddy I could remember.

Every actor picked for the Marauder generation seemed way too old. Hell, Alan Rickman is like 65 and isn't Snape supposed to be like, 40 tops?

WHERE WAS PETER PETTIGREW'S COMEUPPANCE? D:

Fred and George were practically nonexistent, and Fred's death was so glossed over. ;-; ;-; ;-;

The final duel scene was very good, but the actual MOMENT of Voldemort's death was a bit weird. Like, Harry disarms him of the Elder Wand, but there was this beat of like, "well, now what?" and suddenly he starts flaking to death. Why exactly does he die when he is disarmed? That's not a fatal thing. We don't see him get cursed or hexed or anything. He just... loses his wand and dies.

OMG, LAVENDER'S DEAD. I never got the impression she DIED in the book?! I wish Ron had seen what was happening and saved her or something. :(

The fact that Crabbe was missing and Goyle was the one who went nutso. And Blaise Zabini being the Goyle stand-in. I didn't know while watching the film that the Crabbe actor was unavailable for filming due to troubles with the police, so it made the character switch weird and unnecessary.

Who's the random kid who Kingsley Shacklebolt orders around???

Okay, I can't really think of much that I didn't like. Overall, ties up everything I wanted it to tie up. I can't believe the franchise is OVER though. That's like a decade worth of films, omg!
