live report: DEATHGAZE / Girugamesh @ Heart Land Studios, Jul 24/08

Jul 25, 2008 01:20

Arrrggg, I'm going to be so sore from this live! It was a nice break from studying though. This is hands-down the wettest live I've been to and probably the most tiring, hahaha.

DEATHGAZE

Today was the day of the abyss single debut, but I completely forgot to buy a copy. Oh well. The set list hasn't surfaced on 2ch yet, but the guys played for about a solid hour. I think they've improved since I saw them at their first live back. Ai was much more confident and moved around more. Kohsuke is fun, but this tall Giru fanboy was standing in front of me and blocking my view of the shimote side of the stage. He didn't move a lot. :(

Out of the songs I can remember, they definitely played yame ni ame fuhaishita sekai (yay!), DEAREST, shinizakura, their new song abyss (not as heavy as I expected, but not bad either), and ended off with genocide and mass murder. There were a lot more songs, but the problem with DEATHGAZE songs is they tend to blur together.

Ai had a short and incoherent MC... telling us to buy the new single, etc. etc. Near the end, as they were leaving the stage, Naoto tackle hugged Ai, and then climbed on top of the risers and shouted "arigatou!" with a huge happy smile on his face. He'd been pretty chill throughout the rest of the set, so it was very cute to see.

Girugamesh

They took a really long time to set up... over 15 minutes, I think. During that time, I moved up. I didn't really want to be second row, but apparently neither did the girls beside me, so there was just a huge gap Shuu-side behind the saizen during the entire setup time. Of course, when the band DID come out, and the crush came for kaisen sengen, I inevitably got pushed to second row. D: Giru is hard on the body close up. I can say this was definitely the most intense Giru live I've been to.

Kaisen is an older song so it had some retardedly complicated furitsuke. I'm glad they don't usually have it. This was the closest I've ever been to the band, too, even more than the time I was saizen, because Heart Land doesn't really have a stage. While we were waving our arms, the band members would literally come up to our faces. Shuu especially liked to get extremely close and make weird faces at us. During one song, my hand brushed against Shuu's fingerboard... haha, oops.

It felt like an incredibly LONG set. I got really hot (the fact that it's summer doesn't help) and by Real my place I was already feeling kind of dehydrated. It was pretty exhausting getting through the last half, especially with crime and smash!! (but no Giru live is complete without smash!!...! Best song ever). I could see Satoshi was just a giant sheen of sweat, too. The roadie came to Shuu-side and passed a 2L jug of water and told the fans to pass it around... I didn't get any of it until after the main set had finished. :x

Well, it wasn't enough that it was ridiculously hot, but the barrier had a waist high pole that I kept banging into when the people behind mushed forward to headbang... so I've got a series of bruises on my left forearm. The pole also rubbed some weird glue stuff on my hands. Then during one of the later songs, Shuu threw out a water bottle to the crowd... with the top off. Of course, half the bottle emptied on me. SOAKED THROUGH.

They left after kowareteiku sekai, which I was too dehydrated to appreciate fully. While the audience chanted for the encore, I sneaked off to the bathroom to try and clean myself up. After omae ni, I got the most refreshing Fanta Apple of my life, haha.

I found notafanboy outside afterwards, and she can attest to how seriously soaked I was. It was so gross I couldn't imagine going home in that condition, so I went and bought a DEATHGAZE tour shirt (the one that says "I'd rather die on my feet than keep living on my knees"... incidentally, that's a translated quote from the Mexican revolutionary Emiliano Zapata. I've no idea how DEATHGAZE got ahold of it). Then she covered me while I darted behind a car in the parking lot and changed shirts, lol. I still think a guy close by got a free strip show, though. XDD

Then we hung out at the Hub, where I had expensive vegetables and we talked physics. Sort of. I'm exhausted now.
