Yeah, my dad is really stubborn irrational asshole a lot. But Polish society is really sexist, even right now. Sexism is discrimination based on gender and also attitudes, conditions, or behaviors that promote stereotyping of social roles based on gender. Gender stereotyping is still a seriously unresolved issue there (mostly because of the fucking catholic bullshit). My parents admit to me regularly that the allow Jan to be a reckless teen and were so hard on me when I was his age "because I am a girl". Yes, there are stupid arguments like that girls can get pregnant and all that bs, but basically *not* patenting Jan and not giving him boundaries just because he is a boy makes like no sense whatsoever. Normally, I wouldn't just pin this weapon thing on sexism, but with the sexist bullshit already engrained in my parents through Polish society (as well as my grandpa), and my with dad's general sexism (which you aren't expected to be familiar with), points to it being a gender issue. Especially since, there has never been an argument about this weapon thing; I have been given no reason or sign of any kind of opinion on the subject in any conversation I've had on the topic. It's the whole "woman's place is not on the battle feild" bullshit. They probably feel comfortable with me being interested in the subject, but "girls aren't suppose to like violence, weapons, and combat". Serously, trust me on this one, whether or not they even know they are doing it, it's a gender issue.
