Kate had been dozing off and on since the broth incident. She and broth just did not get along.
Not only did it taste atrocious, but it was aqueous. While she had not actually poured it on herself, it had still been slippery. The whole incident made her appreciation of toast grow. Toast knew how to stay put.
She spent her awake time contemplating the expedition's future. She didn't even know which members of the expedition had been lost. She had only asked about Adam. She had not asked about the bigger picture. Who was in charge? Did they still have Rodney and Radek? She could imagine how the attack would have exacerbated Radek's ptsd.
The expedition's recovery as a group as well as individually could take a long time. Her temporary incapacity just increased her frustration. She was tired of being stuck in bed with various devices attached to her. Even though the healing device sped up recovery time, you still felt like you had been hit by a bus or a crew of demented natives. Kate was grateful that her life had been saved. That gratitude motivated her desire to help with the process of healing in whatever way she could.
