He'd had a restless night, but better than the night before. Resigned to dealing with Rodney at least a bit, he asked Biro to handle him and two of the other ATA injections. He'd still have to talk with Rodney in the group while he gave everyone the orientation for the trials.
All the preparations were made, needles laid out, records marked for the day's work. The trial subjects would be asked to stay close to the infirmary for the day in case of any trouble, but would not be confined for observation. Each would be given a life signs detector and asked to attempt to activate it at ten minute intervals so that the time it took for ATA activation to occur could be judged.
He expected most of the trial to fail. If they got even one success, though, it would be a triumph. Despite his personal feelings, he prayed it would be Rodney. The man needed it more than anyone else on the expedition and he seemed to take it as a personal cosmic injustice that he wasn't born with the blasted thing. Carson would just as soon have given him his own than have it himself.
Going over everything one last time, he settled into the medical conference room to await the arrival of the trial participants.
