Day 27, Lunch; Cafeteria; Attn: Dumais

Aug 31, 2007 00:04

Before gonig to the greenhouse and labs for the day, Ridley checked out both sets of apartments that Fields had located for him. Each had its pros and cons, but both were certainly workable. He decided to leave the final decision till he'd shown them to Suzanne.

The day positively crawled until lunch time. )

Suzanne wandered into the messhall feeling a bit lightheaded from hunger. She seemed tired a lot lately, and it was bothering her ... not enough to visit a doc, but enough to frustrate her from time to time. She spotted Lee returning to their table with food and smiled to herself.

He's very kind, she thought as she came closer. She pressed a kiss to his cheek as she slid around the table and took a seat across from him, giving him a tired smile.

Suzanne looked really drained. "Hard day?" Ridley asked, handing over her plate. It worried him how tired she seemed to be lately. One of the many problems of being cut off from Earth was there was no one to pick up the slack if there was illness or injury, or someone had simply miscalculated their staffing needs.

"Oui," Suzanne sighed. "It never ends. There is so much to do, and so much we don't understand yet. We could have another hundred people in my group alone and there would still be too much."

She took the plate and placed it in front of her. She poked at her food, suddenly more listless than hungry. "And honestly?" she said. "I'm not sure if I'm even hungry, now that I'm here. I'm just so tired."

Ridley reached across and took her hand. "You should take the afternoon off-- try to get some rest. You might be coming down with something."

Suzanne managed a couple of bites, but suddenly felt so tired she could hardly lift her fork. "You might be right," she said. "I'm just drained. But ... there just isn't anyone extra to spare, and it's not like I'm injured or anything."
