Okay. So, okay.
I have been a big geek pretty much from birth, and was somehow lucky enough to fall in with various other geeks quite early in my life trajectory. What this means? Is that I spent most of this episode hovering on the edge of hyperventilating with glee because the Ghostfacers reminded me so much of my friends from high school (and college, but especially high school). My darling, dorky, sublimely absurd, video making, sewer exploring, remote-controlled submarine constructing, odyssey of the mind participating, magic the gathering playing, sf & fantasy reading, BBSing, mix tape giving, philosophicizing, parody writing, wonderful adorable socially-awkward and much beloved friends. With the loyalty and the attraction and the obliviousness and the enthusiasm and the interpersonal drama and that incredible combination of sheer ridiculousness and unexpected competence. Just. "My best friend and my best sister"! Harry confiding his concern about Corbett's crush on Ed! Ed getting Corbett's echo to snap out of it and Corbett saving them. *flail*
And. I still think Maggie could have been a little geekier in the show itself, but I just watched "What does team mean to you?" on CW's
Ghostfacers website and now I am fully convinced of her geeky awesomeness. "You take the word team, right. And you, um, take the letters and you mix 'em up. You can have a couple things. You have, ah, meat, you have mate, you have tame; you also have meta. Which, you know in ancient Rome, was like a column or a series of columns that represented, on a racetrack, a turning point. So I like to think, you know, that we, as Ghostfacers, are the meta. We are the columns, we are the turning point on the racetrack of life." Her delivery is geekily informative perfection. <3
There is also the fact that ghost echoes never fail to remind me of Tale of Time City, one of my favorite Diana Wynne Jones books. I had my own private little flaily moment when Sam & Dean explained them.
Speaking of Sam & Dean, I am utterly fucking delighted that swearing is now canon. Go, Kripke & Edlund & co. for finding such an amusing way of getting around the CW restrictions. And overall it was just so amazing to have them back. I missed them so. And it was a competent!Dean ep, which always makes me happy. (I mean, I love competent!Sam, too. But it makes me sad when dense!Dean gets too much use, you know.) With bonus electromagnet! Someday I will go back to the Dean-goes-to-MIT fic I have back-burnered. Oh yes.
