Obviously, I'm not really qualified to respond to this but it does make me think I should check for a similar project for British soldiers at Christmas (our next big holiday).
Damn..I really want to do this, but there is no way my letter would get to Georgia by Friday, especially since I'd want to have a group of letters like they want. I hope all school age children are asked to do this as their teachers can have them do it in a classroom. Do you know if they're doing the same thing for Xmas? That sucks that I didn't think of doing this sooner...:(
I don't think they are planning to do the same thing for Christmas, but it may change depending on what the total talley looks like after Friday. They are only sending them if they have one for every person, so it may be that if they don't get enough, they hold off until Christmas and try to get more.
It seems like a lot of classrooms are doing this. One teacher's class produced 600 letters. I think it was like, 30 kids who wrote 20 letters each on construction paper. Right now they only have like, 30,000 letters but they expect that there will be a wave on the last day. They are still worried about getting near the goal, though.
