I don't do resolutions, the whole idea never worked for me. There was nothing special enough about a date change to me to warrant promises to change my life that I would never fulfill. However, I went Oglethorpe, thus I can reflect with the best of 'em. I am also drunk on champagne. So here it goes:
Last year:
~I graduated from OU, summa cum laude. Not bad for applying on a whim and entering with no goals at all.I also got an award for history scholarship, and became a favorite to professors that most students run from. The last is my favorite accomplishment.
~ Started graduate school, which I rather hate. I keep reminding myself it's for the greater good. Meanwhile, I hope this good makes up for the time away from family and friends, newly developed migraines, and general irritability. I do however enjoy TA-ing alot.
~I got a kitten and a computer. The kitten is cuter, the computer does not eat my toes. I call it a draw.
~I moved in with Stuart. We normalize each other in helpful ways. I mature him, he youngens me.
~I've planned most of my wedding, only to realize just how costly weddings are.
~ I've formed/strengthened/developed really great and probably lifelong friendships with great lasses like Pedro, Chelcie, Brittany, and Rieddhi.
~ I can kick Stuart's ass at Smash Brothers Brawl.
~ I've realized I'm smarter than one of my graduate professors. I'm actually not sure how I feel about this yet.
~I got see two of my best friends ever get married simultaneously stirring up feelings of pride, love, and envy. In other words I learned most things are incredibly complicated.
~ I learned I am very lousy Rock Band drummer, increasing my appreciation for real drummers like Dave Grohl and Zachary, who do not get pretty color-coded noted.
~ My hope Joe Biden would somehow miraculously become president was semi-realized.
So what's in store for next year?
~ An engagement, soon, I hope.
~ I'll be an aunt. Right now I hear so much about the baby I couldn't care less. But I assume that will change when the little brat is corporeal. (This is why Chelcie says I'm incredibly liberal.)
~I'll finish another semester of grad school. And go on research trip to DC.
~Hopefully I'll lose the weight I gained this fall/winter.
~I also hope to get better at Rock Band drums. (I have a secret love for drummers, much my bassist boyfriend's chagrin.)
~ I might attempt to publish an article on massive resistance and rhetoric.
~3 year anniversary with the fella. Not bad considering he's my first serious relationship.
