I have to write a paper for my anthropology class comparing the religions of the Bajorans, humans, and Klingons on Deep Space 9. I know nothing about Star Trek, so this isn't as low stress an assignment as it sounds. Is anyone here a fan? Any books to recommend or specific episodes to watch ( Read more... )

My husband's trying to explain things to me. We'll see how this works out.

Klingons worshipped violence, I guess. It was ritualistic.
Bajorans had an elaborate religion about prophecies and wormholes and crap, and the religion had become perverted from what it used to be. He says the last season would be the one to watch, as one of the guys who worked on Deep Space Nine became a prophet. You'll want to pay attention to stuff with Sisko.

Klingon Language Institute has audio for Klingon.

The Fall of Terok Nor is a Deep Space Nine book that mentions the Bajoran religion a lot.

Wiki List of Deep Space Nine episodes, you'll probably want to check out season 4 for Klingon stuff. My husband said to watch The Reckoning in season 6 and Soldiers of the Empire in season 5.

I don't have season seven yet, but I'm hoping to get it so I can watch a Bajoran marriage ceremony. I've already watched 20 hours of tv and my brain is fried.

Will you please ask your husband if he knows anything about Bajorans and divorce? I've found some info on it, but I'm not sure if there are any specific episodes that mention it.

Haha. I just asked him and I think I broke his brain. He has a cold and an ear infection. So, let me see if I can Google something up for you.

Ok, having Googled it up, I see that Bajorans divorce in a ceremony called the Rite of Separation. This page talks about specific episodes that feature it: Star Trek Wiki Page

Apparently, the episode that features the Rite of Separation is from Season 5, "Let he who is without sin".

Yeah...I can't imagine watching more than 20 hours of Star Trek for a needle-in-a-haystack episode! I used to watch Next Generation back in the day, but my husband says Deep Space Nine is the best. I mostly just liked watching for Worf :P.

Your class sounds like it's nerdy fun. I can understand how this would be quite the assignment to undertake, but reading in another post what your class involved, it sounds like it would be really neat. All I'm doing is medical coursework with a little bit of typing sprinkled in. Again. But by the end of this year I should have a good paying job doing medical transcription, and it's even likely I'll be working from home.

I love the class, but this assignment is really kicking my butt. There was a fire by our house yesterday and there was so much particulate matter in the air that I still feel really crummy. Isis has had a sore throat and headache all day. It's making it really hard to get my work done because I feel so wheezy and ill.

I hope your courses are going well, and I hope when you're done that you'll be able to get a job to do from home. I would love to work at home- if I ever get this place in order I might start doing childcare again.
