Sir Edward had been out of town when the quake hit.

Namely, at the marina, still working on restoring it. He'd felt the shock even from there, but the effect had mostly dissipated by then - enough to make him think it was just something to do with the tides, perhaps a little swell offshore?

All the same, he'd started hearing whispers of what had gone on in town. That was one of the good things of this new-fangled technology, he supposed. He didn't usually believe in rumours, but something made him decide to see for himself. Besides, he was due back to check on his apartment, anyway. See if the people interested in buying Simon's old place on the top floor were still interested.

So, it was that Sir Edward packed his bags, threw them in the back of his old Mini (he'd finally learnt to drive, though it took some doing), and headed into town.

It soon became quite apparent that something big had indeed happened. The large crack running down Main Street was enough evidence of that. Several buildings had collapsed, not to mention trees and telephone poles.

So he really should have been more prepared, when he stopped his car outside his place on Baker Street. Really shouldn't have thought that the place would have escaped unscathed.

"Damnit!"
