The memories were different: they were a cascade, or dominoes, one leading to another until he woke up in a freezing sweat, the end of a scream on his lips.
After the first week of trashing himself awake from the memories, something had to be done.
Which was at least one reason he was at the library that day; the other was to give Abe the comm he promised, taped discreetly inside the back of "The Rise of Radio". After slipping the book into the deposit bin at the front desk, Tim wandered off to scan a case of self help books, eventually settling on "Learn to Sleep Well: A Practical Guide to Getting a Good Night's Rest" because it included a recipe for warm milk with honey that his mother would give him ( ... )

It occurred to him that he'd never seen Tim through his writing with him on the journal and he'd only ever seen him after that as the Red Robin. But after a little reaching out empathically he was able to identify the young person. His age still surprised him, even moreso without the outfit.
"Oh! Tim? Yes-yes!" Abe sputtered getting his wits back. "I doubt there'll be a day without me since I've started working. If the library's open there's little doubt I'll be here." He seemed quite proud of it, at that, spreading his arms around him as if embracing the books at once.
"It's very nice meeting you...face to face," he said with a barely perceivable smile.

"Yeah, same here," it hadn't occurred to him that Abe wouldn't recognize him, not quite, when Abe had glimpsed so much of his mind when the Dementors attacked. "I used to spend hours in the library back home, missed being around all those books whenever I felt like it." He shrugged, keeping his body language casual--if Abe wanted to mention something about the section of the library they happen to find themselves in, fine.

He looked up casually at the sign on the aisle and back at Tim pointedly, turning his thoughts from his embarrassment and surprise to Tim's location in the library.
"Are you still having troubles sleeping, Tim?" he asked, concluding the reason.

But he had to return it, and apologize... hopefully without being asked too many questions about why he had been so eager to run off with a book on mythological creatures that he had forgotten to check it out. Kurt's dark brown knee-length cardigan's asymmetrical hem swung back and forth around his shuffling legs as he slunk in the main library doors. There was no one sitting at the front desk and his fingers tapped anxiously on top of the book as he looked to the left and right, his cheeks faintly pale above his caramel and burgandy striped bowtie. He could just leave it. It felt wrong, though. As if it ( ... )

"One moment!" he called out continuing to close the valves on his respirator so he could remove it.
A moment later, as promised, he slipped out the door undoing the last connector on the two part breathing device and fumbled hopelessly for a moment before putting them under the counter.
"Sorry," he apologized for his perceived indecency and he looked down toward the young man holding a webbed hand out to retrieve the book. "Return or check out?" he asked calmly.
He usually used the stools behind the desk as the floor behind the desk was raised. Now, having simply walked over, he towered over his customer, something he tried to prevent with his height.

"... Neither, exactly," he said nervously. "Or... both, I'm not exactly sure."

Still, the familiar wide eyes always did pull a self-conscious string in Abe's psyche. He stroked a hand to his chest, a comforting motion, and tilted his head at what was said.
Rolling a stool over and setting it as low as the seat would go he put his arms on the desk and held out his hand again. Holding the book itself might help him learn what exactly the boy meant.
"May I? I'm a great fan of mythology," he said softly.
