Hermione did know better. She wasn't one who put herself needlessly at risk, independent though she may be. And she knew Harry was frustrated with her for taking on more than she ought to-- and for not telling him when things were wrong.
Which was why she'd told him last night, when she was having those strange, insistent, twinging pains that were making her very nervous. And then she promised him that she would take it easy today, and stay off her feet, because it was a million times better when she was sitting down. So asking Jim to help her with the furniture was a good, practical plan, she told herself. He needed something to do, and by heaven, she needed someone to help her.
Of course, she wasn't entirely sure what Harry would think about her inviting over the attractive, charismatic Captain Kirk for the day... but he wasn't exactly home, was he? He might never even know that Jim was over.
Rather than bother him with the password and the knocker, she simply positioned herself in the living room, on her favorite recliner, within sight of the front door. That way, she could open it when he arrived, without having to actually get up and move anywhere.
