Integra had spent most of the day in her room on another research kick. Since meeting with Bod again, she was becoming more and more interested in the subject of ghosts, so she had gone online and purchased a few books and had been devouring all that she could since they had arrived that morning. It was beyond exciting to her, to read so heavily on a subject that she found so genuinely interesting. Odd as it sounded, it never failed to make her feel alive to research things so frightening. Cataloging different types of spirits, types of hauntings and common factors that run throughout most of the reports, as well as using logic in an attempt to disprove anything she could was something that she admittedly found exhilarating ( ... )

Jack carefully spun the postcard stand, eying them for something, anything that would connect them to the one he had tucked in his back pocket.

That was when he got that feeling.

You know -- the "I'm being watched" feeling.

Some might chalk it up to paranoia, fostered from living a good fifteen years of his life under the radar or under the threat of being blown up or shot or found by some Serbian mobsters that wanted to get back at him for what they did to some guy he could barely remember. (Jack's life was...complicated.)

But what some called paranoia, Jack preferred to call a sixth sense. He'd never been wrong before, when he got that eerie feeling in his spine. Either someone was following him, or someone was watching him, and neither of those things were meant to happen. Jack took great care indeed in making sure he stayed invisible. He just looked like another guy in loose jeans and a flannel shirt -- two things that, when together, were so out of style they were always in style. So the idea that someone was looking at ( ... )

"How strange," she thought, "Someone with that sort of energy playing dumb?"

The way she figured it, this could be one of four things:

1. The man was possessed by a spirit that left him entirely oblivious.
2. He himself was some sort of supernatural entity and was attempting to throw her off the trail so that he could go about his business, which may or may not include something nefarious.
3. He was totally innocent, her radar was off and nothing was amiss at all.
or 4. He knew exactly what she was getting at, but he was either an unwitting victim or someone that got caught in the crossfire of something particularly unpleasant.

While she would have hoped for options 3 or 4, since they would mean that this man was harmless, the idea that options 1 or 2 were at all a possibility wasn't something she could exactly let slide.

"Indeed I am," she confirmed calmly. While it was outwardly an unassuming calm, there was a hint of something...knowing that lingered in the depths of her eyes. "I haven't seen you around here before. Have you ( ... )

Shit.

Jack's worst fears were inches from being realized. He was about to be found out. What if she was from the government? Were they on to him already? Impossible. But that thought made Jack furrow his brow -- after the things he'd seen, he came to realize that next to nothing was impossible.

But then came the hard part. Did he lie? Well, of course he'd lie, but he had to calculate the extent of it first. Jack looked at the postcard in his hand. Just disappear... Had this woman sent it? Jack was beginning to feel like his whole escape was a very big mistake. But this thought process barely took a few seconds from when the woman spoke, before Jack grinned disarmingly.

"Uh, yeah." Jack rubbed the back of his head. "Just stopping in for the night. How could you tell?"
