Today was Kimberly's first step into real and true adulthood, even if she wasn't going to admit that to Olive. )
"Yeah, but don't worry. They're totally cute. You're okay in a skirt, aren't you?" They were kind of retro, short flared skirts with fitted tops that buttoned up the front and had a collared neck and cap sleeves. On top of that was a cute ruffled apron with pockets for the order pads, pens and straws. "They're red and pale yellow. Yellow skirt and blouse with red trim, red buttons and red cuffs. Trust me, it's cute." Olive's sense of cute was probably way off of what Kimberly's was, though.
"Only the most amazing roommates in the history of roommates." Okay, maybe Olive was taking it a bit far, but she was really excited about life in general. She was getting a fresh start with Ned, a new Pie Hole, new friends and a new roommate. She could hardly wait to get it all started.
"Totally. Especially if they're ordered. Do you really think he'd turn down business?" Olive was pretty sure he'd take whatever he could get since he was just starting out. "You could even fashion some candy bars into invitations. But if you're inviting everyone in town, that's a lot of chocolate bars to send out. You could have a chocolate fountain with all sorts of things to dip it in. Pineapple, marshmallows, cinnamon bears, strawberries, pretzels... the list goes on."
They finally arrived at the apartments and Olive got out of the taxi. She'd let Kimberly pay one way, and pay on the way back. She glanced way up at the looming building and then back at Kimberly. "They're huge!" But to Olive Snook, everything was huge.

Olive's enthusiasm for being Kimberly's roommate was contagious. She was excited, too, that Olive had been the first to reply. The other woman was fun to be around and her smile was just as catchy as her enthusiasm. "I so can't wait," she said excitably. "I think we should promise not to get our hearts set on anything until we hear back from Ned one way or the other if there's an apartment up there available, though, right?" she suggested uncertainly, wanting Olive's opinion, since Olive was the one who already knew the Pie Maker personally before meeting him here.
"Think he'd maybe pro bono it...?" Kimberly ventured sheepishly. "It'd be really good advertising, if he did," she was quick to add. "It's just my funding kind of revolves around Lulu; she's paying for half and then anything I can't afford and I'll be paying her back for the rest of my life if I'm not careful," she admitted with a slight blush rising in her cheeks. As much as Kimberly wanted her party to be a hit, she didn't want to go completely broke trying to achieve that. "I'm loving the chocolate fountain idea, especially like strawberries, cherries...yes, that is totally happening, I love you," she gushed, grinning widely again.
As the women climbed out of the cab, Kimberly looked up at the buildings in front of them and smirked when Olive made her observation vocal. "They're not that big, you tiny titan, you," she teased, elbowing Olive gently in the ribs good-naturedly. She was looking around for any sort of signs pointing her in the direction of the leasing office. "Oh! Okay, ha, there we go, c'mon," she said, spotting a sign pointing a little ways up the road. "Weird that the leasing office isn't, like, bam right there, but...this way," she added, pointing and starting in the direction in which the arrows directed. "Are we still looking at three bedrooms just in case, or...?"
