Gonzo was walking along, pleased with the success of his tightrope-walking stunt and trying to plan his coal-walking expedition. After all, he'd promised that nice man who had requested that specific stunt on his journal that he would try.
The weird and the bizarre felt like home to Gonzo, and so he found himself walking down an alley, trying to compose an ode to it. "I think that I shall never sally/down anything much like this alley. Hmm. That doesn't seem exactly right."
He paused, taking a look around before trying again. "O beauteous alley, I am content/to wander in your excrement...er, no, that's not right. Besides, this is a pretty clean alley, relatively speaking." After all, he'd been to New York. And his best friend was a rat, so he wasn't particularly picky.
"O alley mine, o alley mine, with all your trash cans in a line...There! That's good! I can work with that..."
