Last time Merlin had come in here, it had only been to look at the books, because he hadn't yet obtained a spellbook of his own. Now he had two lovely spell books, including the one Gaius had given him, and he found himself back in the magic shop out of pure boredom and extreme curiosity.

Imagine, a world where it was perfectly acceptable to have a whole store, dedicated only to the practice of magic, right in the centre of town for anyone to see. Despite having spent months in this strange little village of the future, this was still a baffling, thrilling idea to Merlin.

The actual "magical" contraptions he was staring at, however, left him slightly less in awe. Dozens and dozens of cards, and little sets of "magic tricks" made of what Merlin had come to know as plastic. None of it looked particularly magical. But then, some would say neither did he.

Merlin picked up a black plastic "magic wand" with white tips. He waved it up and down. Nothing happened. And it definitely didn't make him feel like he had all the power of the world at his fingertips, like the wooden staff from Arthur. Huh. The future was very... odd.
