Who: The Doctor, The Master
What: Nightmare's aftermath
When: A few days after this.
Rating: PG-13ish

The Doctor had no idea what had happened. Delusion? A hallucination? Or was someone just messing with his head?

After assuring himself that Rose was alive and well and confusing her with his need to hug her every ten minutes, the Doctor lost himself inside of the TARDIS, trying to sort things out. He wasn't delusional, nor was he prone to hallucination, which left him with the conclusion that someone was messing with him.

The first person that came to mind was the Master.

Was he trying to make him choose? Playing a twisted little game to make sure he would come out on top? The Master was cruel enough to do it, of that there was no doubt. But it didn't make sense. The other Time Lord was in his head enough to know this already. The only thing it had succeeded in doing was ripping out his hearts and holding them up for show.

The Doctor let himself into the Master's office, wandering the room, hands in pockets, while he waited for him to get off the phone. He was examining the bookshelf when the 'Mayor' finally got off the phone.

"Was it worth it?" the Doctor asked, not turning around. "Did it give you some twisted feeling of triumph to watch me be gutted?" His voice was tinged with bitterness.
