Who: Bill and Laura What: Fishing. And there are probably a few questions that need answering. When: morning Where: outside their cabin, by the lake Rating: C for contemplative Status: Incomplete
Laura had woken to an empty bed; empty but when she slid her hand over Bill's spot, it was still warm. She had just dozed off again when she heard Tamara over the baby monitor. Sighing, she got up to feed her, and as she stood in the window, she watched Bill and contemplated what they would do for the rest of their days here. Would she get older and die again? Would Bill die, leaving her alone? Would everyone leave her?
It scared the hell out of her, thinking she could be stuck here.
Once she was done feeding the baby, Tamara fell asleep again and Laura made her way outside quietly. Nevertheless, she smiled when he spoke and she nodded. "I did. And Tamara's asleep again." She sat down with him and stared out over the water.
"Thats good." Bill looked up at Laura as she approached, smiling slightly as she sat down beside him. "Seemed like such a lovely morning, so I figured I might try some fishing," he said. "But I thought I'd let you sleep for a while longer." Especially since Tamara had been keeping them up a few times throughout the night.
He slipped an arm comfortably around her shoulders. "You looked so peaceful lying there, it would have been a shame to wake you." He'd settled for a kiss on her forehead as he left the room. "I could do with a cup of coffee, if they don't start biting soon."
Laura gave him a smirk. "You better start hoping the coffee will just appear out of then air," she said as she closed her eyes and leaned against him. Turning her face just enough to press into the side of his arm, she took a deep breath and comforted herself in the smell of him and his aftershave.
Finally, she looked out over the water with her head on his shoulder. "It is beautiful out here, isn't it?"
sorry for the delay - work's been super busy this week, apparently <3oldmanadamaMay 1 2009, 00:35:43 UTC
Bill chuckled. "Now, that would be wierd. Even for this place." He enjoyed the feel of her against his shoulder - warm, and alive. "At least the coffee here tastes better than what we were used to." He jiggled the line a little, watching the ripples spread out across the water.
"It's lovely," he said finally - though it was unclear whether he was referring to the view..or to something a little less static. "Peaceful."
"I love you too, Laura," he said, leaning across to caress her cheek with his fingers. "And I'm so happy you're back."
Tamara, for her part, reached out with a tiny hand to tug at a lock of Laura's hair (which had suddenly become easier to reach). "Looks like little Tamara approves of the hair," he said, trying to prise her fingers away.
Bill took the bottle out of Tamara's mouth when she had stopped feeding, placing it on the table, before accepting the rag from Laura.
"Thanks," he began, "I'll probably..." He was interrupted, by a almighty burp from Tamara. "...need that later," he finished, looking down at his shirt. "Frak."
Laura couldn't help but give a loud laugh at the burp, and soon she had to sit down because she was laughing so hard. "Good girl!" she said as Tamara cooed with an innocent grin. Taking her from Bill so that he could go change, Laura kissed her cheek. "It sounds like you're going to take after your father so he really shouldn't be complaining, should he baby?"
"Well, I'm glad I amuse you so much," he said wryly, allowing Laura to take Tamara from him. Though really, it was good to hear her laugh again. Thank goodness it wasn't one of his best shirts. "Even if I think my eating habits were just insulted." There was a hint of a smile on his face as he said that, though.
"Won't be too long." Bill got up from his chair, heading towards the bedroom. Hand on the doorknob, he turned back. "And no talking about me behind my back, you two." Before walking in, leaving the door slightly ajar.
"Oh, but that's what we do isn't it Tamara?" Laura asked softly as she grinned down at her baby. When they were alone, Laura couldn't help but coo down at her, talking softly as she made her way around the kitchen. The baby softened her up, somehow, and all of the worry and sadness completely vanished from her face. When Tamara was staring up at her, Laura couldn't help but smile back.
