Translation Headaches

Last Sunday, instead of doing an RPG, we watched most of "The Exorcist." I'd never seen it before, but I found it hilarious. The "split pea soup" doesn't look like split pea soup, by the way. I believe the ending sucked, though.

I convinced Dad to buy me a paperback copy of The Godfather and stayed up all night reading it a few nights ago. Good story. A little too much sex for my tastes, but at least the characters were well done and I could identify with a few of them. I'll have to see the movies, still, but having read their synopses, I doubt I'm going to enjoy them that much--they deviate from the novel quite a lot.

In terms of projects, I picked up an old manga with no furigana (aka "handicap kana," or syllabary symbols next to the Chinese characters that tell children and foreigners how to read them) and found I could read it a lot more easily than the last time I tried. I decided to try translating this trio of manga, too, but on paper and in different colors to differentiate the translation steps. Maybe eventually I can scan the manga itself and put it up as a scanlation, though I don't have any webspace for such a thing. So far the translation is taking up five notebook pages and not everything has been translated within them--there are some kanji pairings I just can't figure out, no matter what dictionaries I use. Sigh... back to puzzling.
