VIDEO ☢ OO1。

[ What up, Tranquility. There's a man on your video feed looking pretty damn tired, despite appearing (and acting) otherwise cheerful. Ohhhhh boy, it's been awhile since he's done his Temple TV stuff, but this is. Basically the same. Right? Okay. Just do it.Hi. Connor Temple here. So, starting off, aside from the whole spaceship thing, I wanted to ( Read more... )

don't worry, resnik's listening too.]

What did you have in mind?

Well, first off... [ He pauses. It's not that he doesn't trust you, Ward. It's just that he doesn't trust you enough. Still, he said he's do this for Capa, so HERE IS AN ADDITION: ]

Does USB data cable ring a bell? Or just USB, actually. Universal Serial Bus?

-Hang on. [ SHUFFLING THROUGH PAPER OFF TO THE SIDE ] If it's possible, I'll need some metal, too. Aluminum, chromium, iron, palladium, platinum... um, a welding machine, an electrode holder with a lead-a lot of leads-a ground clamp and electrodes. Probably a chipping hammer. And a wire brush. Is any of this on board?

[aaaaaand hold the phone for just a minute, connor. ward and resnik are going to have A Discussion about what you are asking here.

(this discussion essentially amounts to a fractional eyebrow raise and a shrug from ward and resnik respectively, but it counts.)]

[congratulations, you passed.

the video's back on now.]

USB doesn't ring any bells, no.

[he is from an alternate future and what is this.]

Aluminum and iron shouldn't be a problem. The others... maybe, but I wouldn't count on it-and you'll have to ask Resnik where the tools are.

What are you trying to make? [THIS IS A TOTALLY INNOCENT QUESTION but no, seriously, you should probably answer it.]

[ WITH FLYING COLORS HE HOPES ]

It's fine, I'll figure something out. Shouldn't be too difficult.

[ And here is where the main difference between a young, less experienced Connor, and this older, slightly more experienced Connor comes into play. Because this Connor? Can lie.

Sure, it's hard to lie to someone to who looks like Becker, but you're not Becker, not matter how much Connor wants that not to be the case. ]

A robotic assistant. I only have so many hands. [ He holds them up playfully. ]

[no, actually.

luckily for you, resnik assumed you were relatively harmless-hence why this conversation is taking place.]

There's some sort of reason why you can't just ask someone else to lend you a hand?

[sorry, bro. that might have flown if ward was from literally anywhere else, but ceres is a very do-it-your-own-goddamn-self sort of place. robot assistants are for the weak.]

[ He's so harmless look at him looking so harmless with his harmless ideas. ]

There's some stuff humans can't tackle by themselves. And if I'm gonna be working with some other people, it's always good to have something there to do lightning-fast calculations and stuff. Besides, it's something to do.

[ YOU KNOW WHAT HOBBIES ARE, RIGHT? ]

It'll be a really slow mobile computer, basically, that can hold tools. Is that okay? Or am I gonna need a permit?

[ward's expression moves from its default linefacey status into something that might almost be a frown as connor tries to explain, but ultimately... there isn't all that much to object to here.

theoretically, anyway.]

I'll look, but I won't promise anything.

[do not make him regret this, connor.]

Thanks, Be-

[ Connor stops abruptly. Then, nods carefully, looking slightly awkward. Sorry. ]

Thanks, Captain.

[ward just nods in acknowledgment, then hangs up.

no point in making things even more awkward.]
