Easter is my favorite day of the year

I love Easter. I love it so, so much. I love submitting myself to the discipline of Holy Week, and then letting loose with joy on Sunday. I love the music. I love the way my church reverberates when packed to the rafters.

And, oh my, I love the food.

This year, like last year, I had potluck at my house for Easter, which meant that ~30 people showed up, with all kinds of tasty treats. I made polenta with caramelized onions on top, and a tagine, and carrot soup, and, of course, Easter bread. My roommate made a roast, for the meat-eaters. Our friends brought: parsnip hummus, beet tzatziki, cheddar biscuits, jalapeño bread, cardamom bread, couscous salad, cabbage salad, some sort of salad with bread in it, chocolate mousse, chocolate covered matzo, quiche, deviled eggs, Romanian meatballs, lemon bars, cookies, wine, beer, juice.

We couldn't put it all out at once, there was so much. It was sacred to be among such abundance: abundance of food, abundance of friendship, abundance of laughter, abundance of community. Easter Potluck leaves me exhausted, because I am seriously an introvert, but it is the satisfied exhaustion of celebration done right.
