I have such a love-hate relationship with Big Bang Theory. The show, not the description of the early universe.
On the one hand, the show is basically about me and my friends. And most of the time, I really don't need to come home and watch my life on the teevee. Because, um, I live it. And don't really need, most days, to be mocked, even if it's loving send-up.
On the other hand, this show is basically about me and my friends. And it's well-written, and well-acted. And so when I do watch it, I end up doubled over in laughter. I got the second season for Christmas, and I was watching it on the bus ride home, and in the first episode there's this exchange:
Raj: (trying to get out of having Sheldon stay with him) I. Hate. Trains.
Sheldon: Don't be ridiculous, you love trains.
Raj: (Pause, sigh) Yes, I do. Come on.
I literally wept with suppressed laughter. I'm pretty sure the girl next to me thought I was going to collapse and die. It's such a simple exchange. And yet, it's so unbelievably perfect. It's exactly in character and a little bit funny, just based on watching the show. But if you know physicists and the fact that we have a bizarrely high level of railfen...well, that's why I nearly strained a muscle trying not to be that guy on the bus. Trains. lol.
