It's time to prepare for our long winter, although the horse is a bit out of the barn. We've been getting down around -15C lately during the day, and much colder at night.
We've already done a few things: winterize (one of) the cars, get the snow shovels out, and get out the afghans for the couch. There's a lot left to do, though and none of them have anything to do with Christmas. I mean, the outside Christmas lights are up (stupid garland thing is hanf burned out) and the tree should be going up soon, but our winter lasts long beyond Christmas. In early April we'll start looking forward to spring, so we've got about five months ahead of us still..
First, we needed to make sure all the windows are closed. This seems like a simple thing to do, but apparently it's a bit beyond me. In the computer room, there's a small window that has a small fan in it during the summer. I clearly remember removing the fan from the window and closing both the outside and inside windows. Apparently... I didn't really do that.
plonq went over to that window today to look out, and realized that the whole window was frosted over because the inside window was never closed. And the fan? It was frozen to the window. FROZEN TO THE WINDOW. He unstuck the fan and closed the window... And I ran around and checked the other windows. How could I miss that?
In any event, I would have noticed the problem when I put plastic wrap over the windows. There are some windows in key areas that we cover with that plastic wrap that you blow-dry on. It's pretty neat stuff. The bedroom window, the little window in the changing room, and the little window in the computer room will all get plastic wrap. I'd do all the windows, except I'm lazy. Besides, I really only want to do the windows were we have serious condensation and ice build up because of air leaks.
Oh, to have new windows.
