POWER-PLAYING/POWER-PLAYERS

Minimal "Power-Playing" can be acceptable every once in a while. In small doses. When every one of your posts or comments involves Power-Playing, that's when we start having problems.

Some Power-Playing can be glossed over. Some must be fixed the moment it's posted.

Power-Playing can be divided up into a few broad categories:

1.) Deciding for another character what their reaction is going to be.

If your character throws a punch, you are not allowed to decide how much (if at all) it hurts the other character. If your character glances up in the Great Hall and sees another character, you are not allowed to describe what that other character is doing.

Example:

::throws a punch, making contact with his stomach and smirking as all the wind gets knocked out of him::

or:

::kicks him in the shin, then dances playfully as he jumps up and down crying at the new bruise on his shin::

~~~
2.) Making your character the most powerful character in the game. (This ties in with Mary-Sue-ism.)
Your character did not discover a cure for cancer. Nor did they make a million galleons on the Wizarding stock market. Nor did they invent some crazy invention that will solve everyone's problems. Your character is simply your character. And that should be enough.
Please don't use pre-game accomplishments to further your character. Having your character invent, do, change, or establish something during play is a different story. This must be approved by the mods.
~~~
3.) Using other characters to further your own plot.

Please don't try and force a character into anything. This could be as simple as attempting to get a specific response from another character. For example:

::hopes she'll ask about her new shoes, the ones that were given to her by her new boyfriend::

or:

::the regret for what she's done is written all over her face as she tries to come up with something to say::

~~~
If a character is going to ask what's wrong with your character, they'll ask. Please don't pester them by mentioning it in your character's actions a thousand times.
Any questions to what is power-playing or what makes a power-player can be left here as a comment, or sent in to the mods' e-mail account.
