In 2007 (during Valentine's Day), I posted my Top 5 character ships (it's here). Now, I saw the same meme floating around some of my flist journals, but it is not Top 5 but Top 7

Oh he definitely wanted him to change, that's why he left yet once again, he thought that just because he was back from California things would be different, but they weren't and most of that is the writers and producers fault, which I'll get to at the end of this comment.
The thing is, it's from Season 1 that Justin wanted him to change..and then would say he didn't, from wanting to be his boyfriend after Brian clearly stated he didn't "do" boyfriends, to Season 2, with the "I know who you are, in fact I don't want you to change." and then leaving after he found out why he was living at the loft..which in effect, was Justin thinking Brian had changed with having someone live with him more than for the fact he couldn't live at home anymore..which as in that season as well as in Season 5 was another example of Brian doing something for Justin for basically the wrong reasons.
Justin left because he thought that Brian was never going to change...but then Justin was fine with the proposal, the wedding planning, Briton..but then Brian wants to cuddle..which we can thank Ted's dating website peeking at work for that one..and Justin gets all crazy.
Granted, I swear that last season was almost a Brian I didn't recognize myself, but as much as I love LOVE Justin and especially them as they Dynamic Duo, Justin wants things the way that Justin wants things.
And let's face it, two of the things that drove me bat shit crazy about season 5
That he just had to tell him what a great time he had in California..ask yourself this, do you think that if the movie panned out Justin would have been back so soon--I don't, why, because he took that job offer pretty damn quick without even thinking about talking it over with Brian.
And if he didn't really want to go to NYC, he would have said something like this when Brian questioned him.
"No, I don't want to go, my family, my friends, my life is here, why would I leave all of that for one good review, when good reviews are a dime a dozen and great artists are even cheaper in NYC, why not make a big splash in a little pond than be almost invisible in a big sea."
Something like that would have convinced Brian that he really wanted to be there..because I was never convinced that Brian thought that Justin wanted to be there instead of California anyway.
See, there were a lot of interviews also going on during the airing of the show when it was on, so you could totally get a sense of what was going on with the characters during that season too.
Plus, the inconsistency with the writing of Brian--who by the way, did the totally unselfish thing and really let Justin go even though he didn't want to--it's that inconsistency that made Gale upset with the writing too, he loved playing Brian but even he said that sometimes he had to show growth with the way he said a line or a facial expression because the writing hindered it so much.
Add in that Brian was Cowlip's idea of the ideal man for them, there was no way he was going to be able to change that much anyway.
Here's a little tidbit of what was SUPPOSED to happen in that finale, they shot that last dance scene on the ONE day that Randy couldn't be there..he was supposed to be in that scene to show that he came back but they didn't reshoot it.
The only thing I hang onto is the fact that the producers did say that they did end up together...but still, I would have LIKED TO HAVE SEEN IT.
It's been three years since that finale..and I've watched Season 5 exactly twice..once when it aired and once on DVD, while there are other episodes I've watched so many times I may wear out my dvd..I know I wore out my tapes when I taped the episodes as they aired.
I will forever and always be a Brian/Justin shipper, (the come in a very very very close second to Beecher/Keller on Oz, only because they really were my first..but Brian/Justin hold a very special place in my heart) but in season 5..they killed me..dead.
I had to do two posts..sorry about that, I get verbose when it comes to them. *smile*
I will say that they both could be selfish when they wanted to be and honestly, Justin took a lot from Brian, anyone else would have left him in the dust. But Brian gave a lot too, and with his background it's easy to see why he acted that way..when you aren't taught how to love (and not friendship love like with Michael) it's hard to learn.
But props to me for guessing that he was going to say the "best homosexual you can be" line in the finale, I called that one about 3 weeks or so before it aired.
first thing first, it is ALWAYS nice to have read reviews from you regarding B/J :). especially because i am a "newcomer" and well, you practically have been into the show looooong before i am.

OH GOD?? Really?!? That is just awful!!! I felt a deep pang when I saw that scene. Something is totally missing.
As for Justin's characters ... I know that it may be the writers' fault, but IMHO, I always think that when you're young, you need to chase things. You need to experience life the way it is. Even if it's to be selfish ... and like you said, "wants things the way one WANTS things".
if it's me, i will probably do what Justin did too. if I'm only 22, and there is a whole world open up in front of me. Granted if it's only one reviews, but I need to check whether I will make it.
and THAT is how I think Justin can mature up. so i don't mind that he chased his dreams to NYC. because i'm sure the experience will helps him realize what relationship that he should've have with Brian.
that's the way i see it anyway.
but i do agree that the whole wedding/marriage thing just KILLS the show, especially in matter of Brian/Justin. i wish it is done WAY differently. and totally agree with the inconsistency of Brian. since i saw the show in marathon, i felt that too. from season 1 to season 5. and the way he said, "my prince". PAINFUL to hear
