I am happy to report that there ARE some interesting Australian bands out there. I may make it back to the ol' pub for some live music yet!

First cabs off the rank are Le Kingste and The Red Tree. http://greataustralianmusicsearch.blogspot.com/

hrm.. a thought that i had when you first wrote about this was that i think something that has changed over the past decade or so in australian music is how the line between being a 'local' band, and someone that gets regular radio play, major supports, tours, etc.. has blurred.

and i think le kingste are a great example of this.. and, i'd include paris wells in on this as well. i would struggle to call them 'local' acts simply for the amount of national (and os??) touring, and radio play that they've done/had. it's kind of a point of, where do you draw the line?

i'm actually searching for good 'Australian' bands; not necessarily the little local folk band in the pub down the road, and i'm also not discounting someone like Jet (note: I do not actually like Jet, nor have any urge to include them in my search ( ... )

ahhh.. i was thinking that you were trying to find unsigned/small-medium acts (for want of better adjectives).. and was wondering how you were going to define it.

and completely agree with the rest of what you've said!
