Friendshippery!

It feels like I've been in a constant state of writing and writing and writing, but never actually posting anything, so I'm kind of relieved to have one of my dreaded ficathon deadlines roll around so I can kick one of these things off my computer and onto the internet. I'm not honestly at all sure how I feel about this particular story, but it's ( Read more... )

The words that come to mind for this are "perfect" and "beautiful". I especially liked: The sun is on the horizon when at last they open their eyes, and the sky is painted in the same red and gold as the birds. No wonder you noted your mood as "Accomplished". :)

Aww, thank you. I'm not very good with visual description, but this story really seemed to demand some, so I made an effort.

And at this point, I feel "accomplished" just finishing something, regardless of the quality. :)

Aw, lovely! Yes, he so restless, she so still. Makes me want to go and find a forest of my own. I like how you mentioned the hermit (wasn't it the 3rd Doctor who talked about that hermit?)

Thank you!

I've been kind of longing to spend some quality quiet time in a forest myself, lately, and have kept not getting around to it, so I think some of this story actually came out of that. :)

And, yep, it was the 3rd Doctor who mentioned the hermit. It really stuck in my mind, since it's so very rare that he ever talks about his past like that.

This is lovely. I like the Doctor having trouble meditating, 'cause he really would. But, yes, he also would be able to get into it in the end--for a while.

I think he's displayed signs here and there that he is capable of something very much along the lines of meditation. But, yeah, he has such a naturally restless mind... And I see that as being especially true of Nine, perhaps.

Agreed. Nine can't keep still, because he has things he doesn't want to think about, running away from thinking about Gallifrey.

To a lesser degree, I think Ten is also the restless sort. And Six.

I'd have said Four before Six, actually, but, yeah, it's something of a consistent trait in the man.

But, yes, I think that's exactly the truth of Nine.

That's lovely. I like how he brings the stillness back, an impressive feat with Jackie's chatter. I also think it works well for him not to want to say his home planet's name; I don't think he's mentioned Gallifrey in the last two series, has he?

No, he hasn't, which is something that's kind of stood out to me.

Oh, I love this, so serene and thoughtful. So often in fic, the Doctor is sort of all-knowing, and you do a lovely job here of walking the line of someone teaching him something without losing sight of his vast experience. I especially love this:

Interesting how nearly universal these things are: a smile, a frown, the feeling of friendship expressed with a handclasp or a warm expression in the eyes. It's a kind of kinship itself, independent of planetary origin or DNA.

Gorgeous. Very well done!

Thank you! I think the Doctor certainly knows a heck of a lot, if not quite "all," but sometimes he needs to be reminded of even the things he's already learned. :)
